Attendance Goal: 5
How many students do you anticipate having in this session?

Session Objective:
What does the group most need to accomplish in this session?
This session, the group needs to accomplish a further understanding of exponential functions and
how to turn a word problem into a formula. They also need to be able to read graphs and
interpret concavity.

solving the problem
This will let them test
themselves with all the

Practice Quiz
1. Consider the function given by f(x) = x2 + 1. Find the average rate of change between x =
1 and x = 4

2. Consider the graph of the function g(x) given below. Determine the intervals on which g
is (a)Increasing (b)Decreasing (c)Concave Up (d)Concave Down

3. In February of 2013, the cost to mail a letter in the US was raised from 45 cents to 46
cents. Find the relative change in cost.

4. A car wash operator pays $35, 000 for a franchise, then to run each car wash it costs $10
per car. The customer must pay $15 per car wash. Find the profit function for the car
wash operation. (Find the cost and revenue functions first)

5. For a certain good, the supply curve is given by q = 100 – 2p and the demand curve is
given by q = 3p – 50. Find the equilibrium price and quantity.
