Tier 4i / Stage 3b Installation

 DOC

 Why:
 Tier 4i / Stage 3b means a reduction of 90% of PM and
50% of HC + NOx compare to Tier3 / Stage 3a (in weight).
 Mix of High fuel pressure (1800 bar) + DOC + SCR
provides efficiency and reliability to pass emissions
requirements.

 How:
 DOC is a flow through device (i.e. no clogging risk,
service free) that consists of a canister containing a
metallic substrate coated with precious metal. Exhaust
gases traverse the catalyst so carbon monoxide (CO),
gaseous hydrocarbons (HC) and unburned fuel and oil
(PM) are oxidized, thereby reducing harmful emissions.
 It optimizes the performance of the downstream SCR
catalyst by oxidizing Nitrogen Monoxide.

29
AGCO Training UK NG 2012
MF7600 Series

Tier 4i / Stage 3b Installation

 SCR

 Why:
 Efficient Diesel engine produces Nitrogen oxides and
the most efficient way to clean them out of exhaust
gases is using Ad Blue/DEF injection and SCR catalyst.

 How:
 SCR is a flow through device (i.e. no clogging risk,
service free) that consists of a canister containing a
ceramic substrate coated with precious metal. Exhaust
gases traverse the catalyst so nitrogen oxides (NOx)
reacts with Ad Blue/DEF sprayed and vaporized into
the exhaust gases stream to create diatomic nitrogen
(N2) and water.

• Close Crankcase Ventilation (CCV)

 Why:
 Tier 4i / Stage 3b include all engine emissions i.e.
not only the tail pipe exhaust emission
 Crankcase emissions that were usually release to
the atmosphere are now fully eliminated.
 How:
 CCV is a vacuum system activated by boost air
from inlet manifold, crankcase emissions are
sucked through this service free element that
separate oil droplets and gas. Oil drops down into
the sump and gas return into the intake system
insuring a close and clean loop.

 Why:
 Tier 4i / Stage 3b include all engine emissions i.e.
not only the tail pipe exhaust emission.
 Crankcase emissions that were usually release to
the atmosphere are now fully eliminated.

 How:
 CCV is a centrifugal system driven by engine oil
pressure, crankcase emissions are sucked
through this service free element that separate oil
droplets and gas. Oil drops down into the sump
and air is injected back into the intake system
insuring a close and clean loop.

Nox Sensors
Nox processor
(ECU)
The Nox sensors fitted to the MF 5 pin
7600 & MF8600 series are the same connector
part number with a five pin
connector.

To ensure the signal from each

sensor is recognised by the EEM 4
the upstream sensor uses all five
pins of the connector (pin 5 extra
earth at EEM4) The down stream
sensor uses only pins 1 to 4 and pin
5 is not used.

The diagnostic screen in EDT does

not show the voltage at the sensor it
only indicates ‘ok’ or ‘not ok’

The dew point shown on the EDT

diagnostic checks the moisture level
in the exhaust, if the Nox sensors
are too wet they cannot function

The temperature readings from the

sensors start at 130 degrees c for
the first or down stream and the final Nox probe/sensor
sensor or upstream at 175 degrees
C.

 Diagnostics:

 All the functionalities of the system are tested each time the tractor is used, either when
starting or continually:
• Check of the heating electric functions
• Test of the coolant on/off heating valve
• Check of functioning of AdBlue/DEF T° sensors
• Test of AdBlue/DEF injection pressure sensor
• Check of the ability to increase/keep AdBlue/DEF pressure
• Detection of AdBlue/DEF leaks
• Blockage of the supply pipes
• Presence and functioning of the NOx sensors
• Check of the NOx emission level
• Check of functioning of the exhaust T° sensors.

• De-rate modes:
■ There are 2 de-rate modes
 De-rate mode 1:
• When mode 1 is activated, the engine torque is limited to 75%. This mode is
activated after detection and confirmation of a fault on the system, confirmation
time can vary depending on the type of fault. Activation of de-rate mode 1 is
related to the display of the symbol on the dashboard Dot Matrix screen
accompanied by the illumination of the warning light on the dashboard.
 Final de-rate mode:
• When final de-rate mode is activated, the engine speed is limited to idle speed
(1000 rpm) and the torque is limited to 50%. This mode is activated either after
mode 1 or directly after detection and confirmation of a fault on the system,
confirmation time can vary depending on the type of fault. Activation of Final de-
rate mode is related to the display of the symbol on the dashboard Dot
Matrix screen accompanied by the illumination of the warning light on the
dashboard, an error code and a consecutive beep.
In the event of activation related to low level of AdBlue/DEF in the tank, an
additional symbol will be displayed on the Dot Matrix screen.
■ De-rate modes will be activated in case of cold starting with
AdBlue/DEF tank frozen, low level of AdBlue/DEF and NOx emission
problems.

40

MF7600 & MF8600 Series

Tier 4i/Stage 3b Installation

1
 Derate modes : cold starting with AdBlue/DEF tank frozen:

■ AdBlue/DEF freezing point is - 11 C

■ When starting if the AdBlue/DEF T is < - 5 °C the engine idle speed will rise to 1200 rpm to speed up heating as long
as T° remains ≤ 0 °C and “defrosting mode” will be activated i.e. the tank & gauge will be heated by the engine
coolant via the ON/OFF valve and the supply pump module & supply lines will be electrically heated.
The T° information is obtained from 3 T° sensors:
 Gauge T° sensor used to rise idle speed to 1200 rpm
 Ambient T° sensor located at the front of the bonnet used for the display of the cold starting1screen on the
Dash Control Center (Dot Matrix)
 Supply pump module T° sensor used with the above T° sensors to activate the “defrosting mode” (only on start
up).
■ During work if the AdBlue/DEF T drop to < - 5 °C the engine idle speed will rise to 1200 rpm and “defrosting mode”
will be activated also, in this case T° information is obtained from the gauge T° sensor and the ambient T° sensor
only.

Description

Supply module is part of vehicle SCR system. Supply module is hydraulic unit which sucks reducing agent (DEF/Adblue) from the tank, pressurize
it ( approx. 8-10 bars) and delivers it to dosing module which is fixed to exhaust line. Supply module is controlled via Engine ECU.

Tier 4i / Stage 3b Installation

Dosing module is installed in the exhaust pipe between

turbocharger and SCR-catalyst. DM contains an electrically
operated solenoid valve, which injects the required amount
of DEF through the nozzle of the DM, when being powered
by EEM4.
DM is installed onto the exhaust line and needs to be
cooled when the engine is running. Cooling is done by
engine coolant, circulated by engine water pump
The correct DEF injection amount for each operating
condition is calculated by EEM4 software for optimal
reduction of NOx. DEF consumption during Stage 3 B / Tier
4i is about 6-7 % of fuel consumption depending on duty
cycle and engine specification
DM coil resistance is 11,4…12,6 Ohm at +25°C

Dyna-6 Engine Power Management (GBA15)

 The Engine Power Management system (EPM) is similar to the Power Boost system:
 Also controlled by the gearbox input shaft boost sensor and the PTO clutch
drum engine speed sensor
 Works on the same principle as the MF6400
 Needs the same calibration for the boost sensor as per MF6400.
