● Showing respect for yourself and others creates a safe learning environment where
people feel comfortable expressing themselves.
● Teaches the students to respect others’ things, as well as take care of the supplies in the
classroom, which helps studio time run smoothly and without unnecessary interruptions.
● Emphasizes the worth of the student as an individual and hopefully boost their self
esteem.

2. Come prepared for class each day


● Especially considering the light homework load usually given in art classes,
showing up with all due assignments and homework completed will allow for
class time to be used appropriately and efficiently
● Encourages the students to show up with a positive mindset and excited to work
on their projects that day

3. Take initiative and responsibility for your actions


● Teaches the students to be proactive in their learning and manifest an effective learning
environment
● Teaches students how to stay accountable and take responsibility for any infractions or
missed assignments

4. Put forth effort and turn in your best work


● Particularly in an art class, effort and time will dictate whether a project is going to get a
C or an A
● Turning in best work builds students’ pride and confidence in themselves and their
abilities

5. Pay attention, participate, and always ask questions


● Helps minimize potential distractions and confusion that gets in the way of student
learning
● Emphasizes that it is ok for students to ask questions and get additional help, as that is
one main way to promote learning
● Helps build student-teacher rapport in the classroom setting

6. Come to class opened-minded and ready to experiment


● Encourages students that making mistakes and failing are important parts of the learning
process
● Encourages students to think critically about their own presumptions and be open to new
experiences
