What Is Your Vision?

This week my husband and I woke up to find Max, one of our dachshunds,
cowering in the hallway. He wanted to follow his brother upstairs to go outside,
but something was preventing him from the task he has done every morning
for the past 12 years.

As we carried him through the darkened house, he trembled in my husband’s

arms and once we got him into a lit room, we discovered he had gone almost
completely blind.

Over the last couple of years, we’ve noticed his eyes becoming more cloudy and
although we knew it was only a matter of time, we were shocked when it
seemed to happen overnight.

Since that dark morning, we have done a lot of research on what we need to do
as his support system to encourage him to adapt to his new way of living.

It’s been a rough few days, as Max would rather lay around and sleep his day
away. But with the encouragement and help from us and his brother, Rocky, he
is adjusting and realizing that while he may not be able to physically see 80% of
his surroundings, his vision for life hasn’t changed.

As my husband and I have adjustments in support of Max this past week, I

found myself reflecting on how vision impacts our life. Not necessarily the
physical vision the eyes see, but a more important aspect of vision; the
one that defines our passion and purpose and in the end, creates the life
we choose to live.

What is Vision
Vision is the act or power which gives a direction to our life to make our goals
and dreams a reality.
It is important to have vision and purpose because it helps make our
decisions that create our lifestyle.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a writer. It wasn’t until I was
given a free copy of Jeff Goins book, “You Are a Writer — So start acting
like one” that I realized I had been a writer for most of my life. The one
problem I had was not acting like one.

Jeff’s book changed my life, and now I am not only a writer, but I am also a
published author with the recent release of Birthday Balloons for Grandpa this
past July.

How to Discover Your Vision

Discovering your vision isn’t that hard. Each of us is put here on earth for a
purpose. We want to achieve and accomplish certain things during our lifetime,
and for most of us, the passion we feel deep down ignites us and brings our
hopes and dreams to the surface.

• What are you deeply passionate about?

• What type of work do you find engaging and truly enjoy?

• If someone were to describe you, what words would you want them
to use?

• At the end of your life, what will be the greatest accomplishment?

The answers to these questions will be vastly different for each of us, but they
can help us find what we are passionate about and guide us to what our
vision is for our life.

You Know What Your Vision Is, Now What?

“Having a vision for what you want is not enough…Vision without execution
is hallucination.” Thomas Edison

The first thing we must realize is that our vision will never become a
reality if we sit back and wait for it to happen. Like all things in life,
talking about our vision is not enough, we must get busy and work towards our
goals.
The A, B, C’s of Defining Your Vision
• A — Assess where you currently are. Look at all aspects of your life;
physically, financially, spiritually, and emotionally. By knowing
where you now are will cause you to see where you need to go and
what you need to do to get there.

• B — Begin to move forward. Each step, no matter how small it

seems, is one step closer towards your vision. Goals become
necessary in reaching our vision, but keep in mind that goals are
“how” you achieve something. Goals are like exercising every day,
eating healthy, spending more time with your tribe. Vision is
different. Vision is the “why.” What do you want to get out of life?

• C- Create a vision statement. A written statement can encourage

you when feelings of doubt creep in. Describe what you want to
accomplish, how you plan to get there and include a timeline for
tracking your progress.

• D- Determination is critical. One of the biggest discouragements

you may face is the obstacles that most certainly will come your
way. There will be doubters that feel the need to share their
unsolicited opinion. There may be financial or physical limits, but
the determination to persevere can be the difference between
failure and accomplishment. Remember — “A river cuts through
rock, not because of its power, but because of its persistence.” Jim
Watkins

• E- Enlist the help of others. I’ve mentioned before that you are
here for a purpose, but there will be times when you need
encouragement and support from others. Birthday Balloons for
Grandpa would still be sitting in my desk drawer had it not been
for the people who surrounded and walked with me.

• F — Finish Lines aren’t the end. Having a vision or a dream is an

ongoing process. You will find that as long as there is breath inside
you, there is no finish line. Each day gives you a new opportunity
to evaluate where you are and find more ways to live the life you’ve
envisioned.

Here Is My Vision

“Every person can live a life of kindness to create a better world.” KatieMae
Kindness isn’t that hard to find, but there are days where we need to look a
little harder to see it.

I decided years ago, after living in a season where I wasn’t always kind to
others to make a change. I left a job that had become toxic, and all I saw was
the negativity and judgment of others. It began to infect me, and it caused me
to be a person I didn’t like very much. By removing myself from the
environment, I was able to readjust and once again find my true self. It was
then that I decided to promote kindness each day to those I met.

Sometimes, we need to make significant changes in our lives to attain a

meaningful and fulfilling life. I believe in kindness so much that I am
creating a series in the children’s book arena based on being kind. The Kind
Kindergartner will be the first book in the series, and I hope that it will
impact and help show others that we can all afford to be a little nicer to others.

How’s Your Vision?

You weren’t born to do everything, but you were born to make an impact
in this world. By discovering your vision, you have the extraordinary ability to
contribute to this world making it a better place all while living a life of
purpose.

What is the vision for your life? How are you doing in living out your
vision? As long as you are still breathing, you have time to achieve it.
