A. INTRODUCTION
1.1.1 General
This Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB) lists and illustrates the parts of the MS5002C models only
designed and manufactured by the Nuovo Pignone, Florence - Italy.
The Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB) is intended to be used for requisitioning, storing, issuing, and
identifying parts and for illustrating assembly relationship.
It is not to be taken as authority for disassembly and assembly procedures. Overhaul or repair should
be performed by authorized personnel using applicable technical manuals.
Major sections, assemblies, subassemblies, and detail parts are presented in logical sequence to pro-
vide the necessary descriptive information and to indicate the relationship of an item to other detail
parts and next higher assemblies.
The parts breakdown provides part number, description and quantity.
Individual parts in the breakdown are keyed to the illustration by common index numbers.
Additional descriptive and identifying data, vendor identification numbers and data are furnished,
where appropriate or necessary, in the nomenclature for the specified item.

Position Column. This column contains the index number called out on the illustration in which the
assembly or part is shown
Part Number Column. The part number column contains the part number assigned to each part by
Nuovo Pignone.
The Nuovo Pignone part numbers (material coding) are based on a system of digits and letters:
1) Machine Parts:
Sxx+5 or 7 digits
The 2nd letter refers to the machine type built by NP (gas, steam turbines, axial, centrifugal, recipro-
cating compressor etc.):
M = gas turbines
E = R&D special products
S = Centrifugal compressors
2) Common Parts:
Rxx+5, 7 or 9 digits
This code refers to commercial parts that may be common to all the NP machine types (i.e.: screws,
springs, pins etc.).
The 2nd letter indicates the type of product, the 3th letter refers to the material quality.
The technical documentation that generates this material code may be a drawing, a specification or an
ITN (internal technical note).
For example:
RPR 47884: pin (P), stainless steel (R)
3) Standard Parts:
xxx+5 to 9 digits
This code refers to commercial and normalized parts that may be common to all the NP machine
types (i.e.: screws, springs, pins etc.). The technical documentation that generates this material code is
only an ITN (internal technical note).
All the codes that are different to the above listed refer to vendor’s part that are not covered by NP
part numbering system.
Description Column. This column contains descriptive data and other information, as required, for
each part identified by a part number.
Quantity Column. The number appearing in the quantity column is the quantity required at this loca-
tion. Other entries which may appear in the quantity column are as follows:
ALT: Alternate part, may be used interchangeably with other current parts.
AR: The letters "AR" (As Required) are used when the quantity or selection cannot be accurately
specified. For example: lockwire, paint, adhesive, repair parts.
DSC: Discontinued, old part should no longer by used for this application.
NP: Not Procurable. Part is not procurable in the configuration represented by the indicated part
number. Reference is normally made to the next higher assembly (NHA).
REF: The letters “REF" indicate that the listing of the part or assembly is repeated, and that reference
should be made to its previous listing in the Group Assembly Parts List for the quantity.
RPL: Part to be replaced by later configuration - see change document when applicable.
RWK: Part reworked (or modified) and reidentified to new part number.
SPL: Special. Parts may have restricted usage. See text following the parts listing.
SUP: (SUPERSEDED PART) Old parts may be used until supply is exhausted - then use new parts.
1. When the part number is known, refer to the Numerical Index and locate the part number. Note
the figure and index number assigned to the part number.
2. Turn to the figure number indicated and locate the index number in the Part List.
3. If a view of the part or its location is desired, refer to the same index number on the accompanying
illustration.
2. Look for the part number of the detail position in the part list.
3. Check for the presence of the detail in other drawings and tha total quantity in the alphanumerical
index.
