THE SHOULDER JOINT
Surface marking
Articular surface:-
The joint is formed by the articular
surface of scapula and the head of the
humerus. Therefore it is also known as
the glenohumeral articulation.
Relations:
Anteriorly: subscapularis,
coracobrachialis, short head of biceps
and deltoid.
Blood supply:
Nerve supply:
1. Axillary nerve,
2. Musculocutaneous nerve,
3. Suprascapular nerve
Movements at the shoulder joint
2. Extension:
a. Posterior fibers of deltoid
b. Latissimus dorsi
c. Teres major
d. Long head of triceps
e. Sternocostal head of the
pectoralis major.
3. Adduction:
a. Pectoralis major
b. Latissimus dorsi
c. Short head of biceps
d. Long head of triceps
e. Teres major
f.Coracobrachialis
4. Abduction:
a. Deltoid
b. Supraspinatus
c. Serratus anterior
d. Upper and lower fibers of
trapezius
5. Medial rotation:
a. Pectoralis major
b. Anterior fibers of deltoid
c. Latissimus dorsi
d. Teres major
e. Subscapularis
6. Lateral rotation:
a. Posterior fibers of deltoid
b. Infraspinatus
c. Teres minor
d. Subscapularis
