What is a Project Study Project study (Applied Study)
• a careful and critical investigation or examination of a
proposal, scheme, idea or of a specific plan and design
• Purpose: achievement of the desired goals or
objectives.
• Specific objectives: early completion of project with
minimum cost performed at a very organised manner Example Example An example of a socio-economic aspect of a project study What are the Components of a Project Study 1. ABSTRACT
• a good abstract is about three paragraphs long
(around 500 words)
• the section highlights important information of
your project What are the Components of a Project Study 2. INTRODUCTION
• first chapter of the project study
• presents the overview of the study and the
significance of the study
• the section concludes with the presentation of
the organisation of the contents of your study What are the Components of a Project Study 3. REVIEW OF LITERATURE
and dissertations, patents, laws and regulation, official memorandum, newspaper articles, think tank reports, policy reports and government reports are excellent sources for your literature review What are the Components of a Project Study 4. CONCEPTUAL OR THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
• presents the dependent and independent
variables (also intervening variables, if any)
• Theoretical Framework (TF) is where you present
the discussion and evaluation of a theory (or theories) that are relevant to the topic you are investigating on. What are the Components of a Project Study Theoretical Framework—which consists of established set of rules and principles—will serve as your guide upon which to construct and support your study. What are the Components of a Project Study Conceptual Framework (CF) refers to your actual ideas that you possess about a certain phenomenon. It is where you conduct a specific exploration of a facet of the much broader theoretical framework, arriving at your own (sets of) hypothesis (H) as a result of that exploration. Examples of TF-CF-H Interaction
A researcher employs the theory
of quality management maturity network (TF) to develop a construction safety model (CF) that will improve safety performance in a construction project (H). Examples of TF-CF-H Interaction
An academic scholar used the
theories of stereotype and stigmatisation (TF) to understand the characteristic and behaviour of terrorists (CF), which led him to hypothesise that perpetrators of modern terrorism are mostly of Arab descent. What are the Components of a Project Study 5. METHODOLOGY
• tells about the specific steps you followed in
investigating your study and the rationale behind the application of such steps.
• you need to explain the steps that you adopted.
• This chapter answers two main questions: How
was the data collected and how was it analysed? What are the Components of a Project Study 6. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
• presents the result of your study based on the
methods you adopted.
• the results should be presented in a logical
sequence What are the Components of a Project Study 7. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
• Conclusion is not merely written to sum up the
bulk of your project study
• you have to synthesise the key points of your
study to help the reader understand why your study should warrant adoption.
• Recommendations are also presented here.
Organising Your Project Study Your project study shall be organised using the order below:
