The main source of income in Sorsogon, about 40 percent of the families in the province derived
their income from entrepreneurial activities, 33 percent from wages and salaries and the
remaining 27 percent got their income from other sources such as assistance from abroad,
rentals, interests on bank deposits, pensions and retirements. Among those receiving salaries and
wages, about 12, 250 families are in the agricultural sector and 27,343 are inn the non-
agricultural sector. Among those that engage in entrepreneurial activities, a total of 31,445
families derive their income from crop farming, livestock and poultry raising, fishing industry
and forestry and 16,554 families are doing wholesale and retail, manufacturing, transportation,
construction and other personal services. Undoubtedly, the main source of income in the
province is entrepreneurial activities which unfold the hidden talent and skills in
entrepreneurship not only the Sorsoganons but also around the world who wanted to start a new
business in the province.

SORSOGON TO ESTABLISH 30- HECTARE PILI ORCHARD IN 2020

Sorsogon City, August 15 (PIA)- The province of Sorsogon through the Office of the Provincial
Agriculture will establish a Pili Orchard by the year 2020 covering a 30 hectares of land under
the Philippines Rural Development Program (PRDP).

In Sorsogon, Pili was identified as the top priority commodity among the three commodities
namely pili, coconut and seaweeds are the potential for achieving the PRDP goal.

The 30-hectare pili orchard can open different opportunities in the people of Sorsogon because
this pili orchard can be the main supplier of different business in the whole province.

POOR FOLKS IN SORSOGON TAUGHT HOW TO MAKE A LIVING FROM “HILOT”

For a poor community in Sorsogon, the traditional “hilot” home remedy will soon become a
source of livelihood. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is
introducing the old- school Filipino massage method as a career option to residents of Prieto
Diaz in Sorsogon, a community raring to venture into eco-tourism and wellness services

Tesda partnered with the local government to train selected residents in several courses,
including food and beverage services, hairdressing, cooking and the traditional Filipino tough
therapy in efforts to “mainstream” hilot and develop it into a means of living.

that fits their standards. Café shop is the new trend because of its ambiance and the
