The operating instruction is specially compiled for your working personnel
responsible for operation and management of the equipment manufactured by
Jiangsu Muyang Group Co., Ltd. Please deliver these documents to the personnel
concerned.
If the contents of this Operation Manual and Specifications of this product are to
be changed, we would not notify of them further. Jiangsu Muyang Group will reserve
the right to modify the specifications of this product and the contents in this Operation
Manual.
Measures for delivery taking
Once the machine arrives, make a visual inspection immediately. If there is any
damage caused during transport, take necessary procedures to claim for
compensation according to the supply contract. The repair expense should be borne
by the risk undertaker concerned.
Storage
The machine and equipment that can't be installed at predetermined site
immediately must be stored with the original packing in a place that is weatherproof
and free of any other external damage. The storage loss can only be handled in light
of the supply contract.
Installation
Only specially trained technical personnel are allowed to install the machine and
machine parts produced by Jiangsu Muyang Group according to various installation
specifications attached.
Equipment structure
If several machine structures are involved in the documents provided, only the
one stated in the supply contract is effective. We reserve the right to make
improvements prior to delivery.
Start-up and commissioning
Start-up and commissioning work can only be conducted by specially trained
technical personnel. Before the initial start-up, operators must be familiar with all

instructions and operation rules stated in the documents provided by us. And it is a
must to fill lubricant like speed variator oil prior to the initial start-up.
Accident precautions
Relevant accident precaution regulations in the documents provided by us must
be carefully studied and observed. Jiangsu Muyang Group makes every effort to
manufacture equipment according to the latest Chinese national safety standard and
European safety standard (or the EC standard), and customers must tell us the local
safety regulations prior to our production. And the extra cost resulted here from should
be born by the customer.
Maintenance/cleaning work
Maintenance can only be carried out by professionals, and they should know well
in advance the regulations in the documents provided by us. These regulations are
favourable for keeping the machine and equipment intact, reducing abrasive wear and
prolonging the service life. Cleaning work must be carried out according to legal
regulations as well as the instructions in our documents.

Personal Protection—
Countermeasures against Accidents
1 All the mechanical equipments produced by Jiangsu Muyang Group are equipped
with safety devices, which are consistent with modern technical level and A
universally effective safety rules prior to ex works, so that the customers can use
the machines in accordance with the regulations.
2 Enterprises are obligate to execute following regulations to guarantee operators'
safety.
3 The coupling shield cap must be mounted and closed at any moment. It is very
dangerous to personal safety, if they are open or disassembled. This point is also
applicable for the preventive device of manipulator.
4 The safety limit switch should always be kept in good order. The safety limit
switch may not be overlapped or discarded.
5 The grating cover plate, grid bar or guard grating are usually installed and
delivered together with the machine. They can only be disassembled with tools.
And the machines with such kind of devices can never put into work until the
above-said devices have been properly installed.
6 The driving motor must be switched off completely when carrying out inspection,
commissioning, repair and maintenance. This can be realized through a
full-phase separating and lockable switch installed near the machine or on the
operation desk and control panel on the site. It is not enough only to screw off the
fuse wire!
7 If the machines need other energy like pneumatic, hydraulic, steam and hot water
energy, it is necessary to cut off their energy supply or turn off the switch, and
eliminate the pressure in the internal pipeline system of the machine.
8 As for handling heated or cooled parts and components of the machine, especial
care should still be taken for the danger of burning possibility.
9 If you have pressed the emergency stop switch to stop the machine and you want
to reset the switch, so it is not permissible to only re-press this button to restart
the machine. And the machine can only be started by re-closing the main switch

10 If some machines are equipped with a local shutdown system, especial care
should be taken. Read the instruction manuals attached with the machine A
carefully. In such machines with a local shutdown system, temperature will rise
because of pressure or vacuum will occur after they have been used for a period.
11 If the operators employed cannot read or write, the owner has the duty to explain
to them clearly where dangers exist and warn them that special attention should
be paid.
12. The cleaning, lubricating and oiling of the machine or its parts and components
may be carried out only when the machine is stopped. If you must climb on or
enter the machine to do such work, the mandatory provisions shall be made
without exception: the power supply of motors must be cut off completely and the
switch must be locked!
13 Be careful, sampling from inside the machine can never be carried out unless
there is not any danger. Usually, the samples can be taken from the pipe under
the machine instead of inside machine.
14 Clear off the deposited dust, dirties and materials frequently. Keeping the
machine clean can enhance production safety and the cleaning level of workshop,
and is also beneficial to dust explosion prevention.
15 If oil (grease) leakage occurs, clean it immediately and seal well the place where
leakage occurs, for oil or grease leaked on the floor will easily bring about
hazards to the operator.
16 In production operation, the machine must be equipped with safety devices,
which may be neither removed and abandoned nor reduced in functions.
Otherwise, we are not responsible for any accidents resulted here from, and
reserve the right to ascertain where the responsibility lies.
17 Please execute the special regulations on accidents prevention in the operating
instructions provided us.
18 Only the trained professionals are allowed to operate the machine and
equipment manufactured by Muyang.

Personal Protection—

19 Measures for environmental protection
If you decide not to use the machine any longer, the measures for environmental A
protection and reutilization should be taken: drain the liquids inside the machine
(like motor oil, gearbox oil, brake oil and coolant etc.) into special containers and
send them to the preparation workshop. The plastic parts shall be picked out for
reutilization. The metal parts shall be sorted out so as to be crushed or scraped.

Explosion Protection—
Countermeasures against Dust Explosion and Fire Hazard

Common cleaning work


(1) Keeping the working site with combustible dust clean is an important condition for safe

production.

(2) Try not to pile bagged or bulk materials between machines.

(3) In order to reduce dust emission to surrounding areas, all conveying devices, cyclone

separators and dust collectors should be kept in good condition. Especially, the unsealing

phenomena of pipes or top covers should be avoided.

(4) Dust everywhere frequently and effectively reduce dust explosion hazard.

(5) Keep all motors free of deposited dust.

Frequent inspection and maintenance


(1) Regularly check the safety devices such as speed monitor or the like, at least once a week.

(2) Check and clean all the magnetic separators, stoners and sifters regularly, at least once a day.

(3) In order to avoid heat generation, it is necessary to regularly check the functions of all main

shafts and bearings, at least once a week, and to regularly carry out lubricating.

Electric apparatus
Regularly check the electric apparatus and articles, and special attention should be paid to

the following points:

(1) It is forbidden to use any flashlights and other lamps without shielding or explosion-proof glass.

(2) It is forbidden to use any lengthened cable or electric furnace.

(3) It is necessary to immediately repair or replace the electric devices and equipment if any failure

occurs.

(4) The cables without conduits are not allowed to be installed on the floor.

(5) Cut off power supply of the machine when going off work.

(6) An electrician should be assigned to check the insulation of all the lines of electric network

according to relevant regulations on heavy current, at least once a year.

Explosion Protection—
Countermeasures against Dust Explosion and Fire Hazard

Smoking and welding

(1) Smoking is prohibited, which is applicable to all workers and staff of the enterprise as well as B
guests, customers, foreigners and drivers visiting the factory.

(2) If the tools such as welding machine or soldering lamp (flame soldering lamp) etc. are required

for repair or installation, do as best as possible to arrange the work in a special workshop or on a

special site.

(3) If it is necessary to carry out welding or the like directly in production area or storehouse once

in a while, written applications must be submitted to a related supervisor in advance for written

approval. The above mentioned operations can be carried out only when special safety measures

have been taken, such as laying pieces of water soaked canvas or canvas special for covering on

the surrounding area and preparing fire extinguishers. After completion of the operation, the

welding site and the surrounding area are to be monitored at least for 10h. The gas cutting sparks

are very dangerous, for people can't see where they will fly on earth. They can cross through the

narrow clearance of walls and drop downstairs or to the next rooms, or even fly off 10 m away in

distance. If the sparks drop in dusts, fire accidents may occur at any time.

(4) Welding is prohibited on a running conveyor. If the welding work is necessary, shut down the

machine first, and then make a thorough cleaning and isolate both sides of the welding site tightly

with materials like mineral wool to avoid connecting with other conveying devices, silos or tanks. If

the work is to be done on the chutes or conveying pipes, it is necessary to disassemble them or

divert their lower ends and seal them to avoid welding sparks entering the conveying pipes or

silos.

the surrounding area and preparing fire extinguishers. After completion of the operation, the

welding site and the surrounding area are to be monitored at least for 10h. The gas cutting sparks

Effect of static electricity


In order to ensure the safety of electric circuits and avoid explosion resulted from spark
discharge, the paint coat at the electric connections must be removed.

Safety

Safety Points
(1)It is prohibited to open the access door until the machine has been fully stopped.
(2)The master switch must be shut off and locked for all maintenance and inspection
work. B
(3)Electric installation and the treatment of conducting parts can only be done by
specialized persons in accordance with the related electric safety standards.

(4)The multi pass convection dryer must be run on the condition that all accident
precaution regulations are strictly observed. Whoever takes off guarder or make

it dysfunctional should be responsible for the safety result.


(5)In case maintenance and inspection work should be done with a welder or other
tools that can generate sparks, strict safety precautions must be taken against dust
explosion and combustion. (See part B “Explosion Protection — Countermeasures
against Dust Explosion and Fire Hazard”)
(6)When the multi pass convection dryer is under stoppage, attention must be taken
to prevent it from being started by any accidental starting mode.
(7)All the safety guards may not be dismantled, unless the equipment is fully
stopped and powered off; the safety guards must be mounted before restarting
the machine, otherwise the equipment cannot be started.
(8)When the dryer is running, high-temperature steam is led inside the machine,
and maximum temperature can be up to 135℃. In convenience for installation
and inspection, gates that can be opened are designed at surrounding of the
dryer. Note: DO NOT open the gates when inside heat is not completely
dispersed after the machine is started up or shut down. Heat insulating material
is used for inside of the gate body , under normal situation, temperature of the
outer gate body will not injure the people, however, try not to touch the outer
gate body in normal startup for safety.
(9)After installation and commissioning of the dryer are completed and put into use,
it is unnecessary to open the gate body for entering the inside of the machine

Safety
generally, normal shutoff inspection only needs to open the gate body for
operation instead of entering the inside of the machine.
(10)If it is necessary to enter the inside of the machine for inspection and repair, the
following operation rules shall be strictly implemented:
 Cut off main power of the principle machine, press the emergency-stop switch,
and key of the control cabinet shall be kept by designated person, and wait for heat

dispersion of inside of the dryer (about 0.5~1.5 hour);
 Open all gates surrounding the dryer by tools to make smooth ventilation inside
the dryer and avoid asphyxia when a person enters the inside;
 Operators shall bring along lighting device such as electric torch for inside
operation to avoid bruising;
 Open fire operation is forbidden inside the dryer;
 When operators enter the inside of the machine, it is necessary to hang
eye-catching marks outside the machine to avoid others starting up the machine or
closing the surrounding gates;
 After operation, it is required to determine there is no operators and tools inside
when closing the surrounding gates
 When the machine is running, it is strictly forbidden to put fingers near the running
parts, such work as inspection, maintenance and cleaning etc can not be done until
the cooler has completely stopped.

(11)Safety of the electric system


Before the electric circuit is cut off, it is strictly prohibited to open the terminal box
for avoiding electric shock.
The control system of the multi pass convection dryer must be supplied by
Jiangsu Muyang Group Co., Ltd or checked by an expert from Muyang before
commissioning, otherwise the technical safety responsibility of the supplier will
be dispelled.
Electric control is a component part of the safety regulations for accident
precaution.
(12) Safety of the steam system

Safety
Steam is required for operating the dryer; steam system is a high-temperature
pressure system. Installation of steam system shall comply with local safety rules, and
qualified personnel shall be employed for construction and installation of steam
piping.
Prior to commissioning the control system must be tested by an expert from the
Muyang Group in light of the testing plan.

If the control system for Muyang machinery equipment is not used as per the
conditions mentioned above, the Muyang Group will refuse to take any responsibility.
If the Muyang Group is required to take responsibility, the group will reserve the
right to investigate and affix the responsibility of the operator.

Explanation of the safety marks

Safety mark "Beware of electric shock": Do not


open the junction box of the motor until it is switched
off to avoid electrical injury.

Safety

Attention Points

(1)The operation, checking and maintenance etc. of machine or equipment can only
be carried out by the qualified professionals trained by Muyang Group.
(2)Whenever maintenance or repairing is to done the power must be cut off first so
as to prevent the motor from accidental starting. C
( 3 ) All related employees should receive safety education, the enterprise
management should be in charge of it, and the national, local or the other
internal safety regulations of the enterprise should be observed.
(4)The machine must not be used for the applications which are not in the
application range.
(5)The safety marks must be kept clean and can not be taken off or covered.
(6)The safety guards can never be dismounted, covered or overlapped willfully, and
can never be opened until the machine has completely stopped. And the
machine can only be started when these safety guards are in good order
functionally.
(7)The damaged parts must be repaired or replaced promptly.
(8)For transportation and handling, it is not allowed to damage the equipment by
bundling. In case there is any machine damage or missing of parts found in
transportation or handling, it should be reported to the management
immediately.
(9)Before installation, all machine parts must be kept in their original packages. The
machine parts and packing boxes should be properly covered and stored in
places sheltered from rain, sunning and damp. The permissible load of hoister
should higher than the equipment weight. As hoisting, only the hoisting points
assigned on the machine can be used; the hoisting ropes must be fixed correctly
and reliably; and no one is allowed to be under the equipment being hoisted.
(10)In installation, enough space should be reserved for future maintenance and
replacement of the equipment.

Briefing of the Dryer

General
(1) Application and adaptability
Series SKGD2400 multi pass convection dryer (hereinafter referred to as “dryer”) is mainly

used for drying and water removing process of expanded and pelletized feeds.

This machine is applicable for drying aquatic animal feeds, livestock and poultry feeds, pet

feeds and special feeds, especially in the manufacturing technology of high-grade feeds for

aquatic animals.

This machine can also be used for drying process of granular and flaky materials in cereal,

food and chemical industries.

(2) Features and Character


Series SKGD2400 multi pass convection dryer is a general drying equipment in horizontal

layout, using a cross flow drying technology, characterized by simple structure, reliable control,

convenient and visual operation, keeping particle appearance, flexible adjustment of drying quality

and high effectiveness of heat exchanging etc.

(3) Running Conditions

Particle size of intake materials: length not exceeding 8mm

Bulk density: 0.3~0.8 kg/dm3

Water content: not higher than 28%

Temperature: ≤140℃

Physical Environment

Temperature: -15~40℃

Relative humidity: not higher than 75%

Elevation: not higher than 1000 m

The working voltage should be stable with a deviation not more than ±5%.

 Note: When the altitude exceeds 1000m, the motor temperature will raise because of

subtle air; when the temperature is lower than -15℃, it is necessary to use a proper

lubricating grease.

Note: the main induced draft fan is excluded in the calculation of total power. The type of

main induced draft fan is related to the exhaust system design at the dryer installation site and

should be selected according to the practical situation. Therefore, the Table 1 does not include

specific model and relevant parameters of the main induced draft fan.

The above performance indexes are based on floating pellet feeds for aquatic animals

produced by the die plate with die holes of 3 mm or 4 mm, when the moisture is reduced from

20%~22% to 9%~12%, the throughput and moisture unevenness index of the dryer conform to

the data in Table 2.

Since the requirements to ingredients, moisture content and environment condition of raw

materials and finished products processed by the dryer are different, the above performance

indexes will also be various.

Working principle and structural features

(1) Working principle

(a) Working principle


Series SKGD2400 multi pass convection dryer is a kind of horizontal dryer working by using

air heated by steam as drying medium, and removes surplus moisture from material by a cross

flow drying method (air flow direction and material advance direction are crossed, i.e. crossflow) to

realize moisture and heat exchange of material and hot air inside the dryer, so as to reach the

requirement to moisture content in finished product.

(b) Working process


Working process of dryer is shown as follows (see Fig D-1):

 Qualified material produced by the upper extruding machine will be evenly spread on

the conveying belt through spreader;

 Material will enter the drying section by the conveying belt;

 Heat air discharged by the circulating fan will enter the drying section and pass through

the material on the conveying belt to realize moisture and heat exchange between

material and air;

 Dried material will be returned at material returning section;

(c) Circulating air passage


After being heated by heat exchanger on the top of drying section, the air will enter the drying

chamber alongside built-in air passage on the side of drying section under the push of circulating

fan.

After drying medium and material exchange heat and moisture on conveying belt, part of air

will be discharged out of the dryer through exhausting gate, which bringing away a part of moisture

of material.

While most part of air will be heated again by the heat exchanger, and then mixed with fresh

air to enter the dryer again, so as to realize circulating utilization of air flow (see Fig D-2).

Note: the air passage in Fig is only as reference, and the actual air passage can be adjusted

based on demand.

(2) Overall structure


The drying process system of Series SKGD2400 multi pass convection dryer shall be

composed of a principal machine, a steam supply system, an induced draft and air volume control

system, an indraft dust collection system, an electrical control system and etc.

This chapter mainly introduces the main structure and working principle of main principal of

the dryer (see the main structure of the dryer in Fig. D-3). The dryer showed in Fig. D-3 is

(3) Structure of main working components

(a) Spreader
Standard material spreading device equipped for the dryer is oscillatory type spreader for

obtaining material layer with even thickness on conveying belt. For adapting to different

technological processes or installation requirements, other spreading devices can also be used.

Oscillatory type spreader is composed of material tube, bracket, driving device, connecting

rod and vertical shaft as well as other auxiliary structures; see Fig D-4.

Main functional part of oscillatory type spreader is the inclined material tube.

It is driven by connecting rod driven by chains, material tube makes reciprocal oscillating D
movement, and its oscillation amplitude is adjustable.

Track of reciprocal oscillating of the spreader combined with rectilinear motion of conveying

belt can obtain a better spreading effect.

Structure of feeding section and functions of all parts are simplified below (see Fig D-5):

 The feeding section has two floors, it is a structure of profile steel framework covered

with sheet on external and internal surfaces, and with glass fiber thermal insulation layer

in the middle;

 There are supports for the main shaft of conveying belt in the feeding section;

 Driven shaft and adjustable support are set for conveying belt, chains of conveying belt

can be tensioned;

 The service door with great opening at the end part is convenient for users to carry out

Dryer is composed of several drying sections, in convenience for communicating with a

uniform name, designations from the “feeding section” to “material returning section” are shown as

follows: “drying section I”, “drying section II”, “drying section III”, ……, and the like.

Structure and functions of all parts of dryer is simplified below (See Fig D-7):

An upper case for drying section is set with built-in steam heat-exchanger, intake, discharge

and heating of air flow to be dried are completed here;

● A lower case for drying section is set, a built-in air passage is formed between the middle

access door and inside moveable gate, hot air is allowed to enter the drying chamber;

● An air feeding gate is set to control the volume of fresh air to be complemented;

(g) Windshield device


The windshield device is composed of 3 separated components, i.e. upper fixed windshield
device and lower windshield device respectively.
The windshield device in series SKGD2400 dryers is used for separating different
temperature areas and placed on a corresponding interface of the drying section, to preventing the
air flow in adjacent temperature areas from crossing; this is favorable for stabilization of
temperature in control areas.

The schematic diagram for production process (Fig.E-1) only shows how the interfaces of the

dryer are connected with other equipment in the production process, but does not indicate the

detailed production process flow, and the detailed process flow should be designed by

professional technological designers.

(2) Material feeding


High-temperature expanded pellet feed enters the spreader in the dryer through a belt
conveyor in combination with a spout, and is uniformly distributed on the conveying belt through
the spreader.
Pneumatic conveying is also one of optional methods for conveying material into the dryer.

Production Process
(3) Material discharging

The dried pellets are discharged out of the machine through an outlet, they can be collected in a

discharging hopper at first and then conveyed to next working procedure through a belt conveyor.

Whatever method is used, it is necessary to take the harmful effect of discharging mode on

pellet appearance into account, and to determine a executive plan after comprehensive

consideration of other adaptable technological factors.

(4) Dust collecting system

The matched cyclone separator should have a proper size and this is one of important factors

effecting the dust collecting result. A too big cyclone separator will result in blowing-out of dust due

to insufficient centrifugal force and a too small cyclone separator will also result in blowing-out of

dust because it cannot keep air flowing.

Transportation

(1) Hoisting

The hooks should be hung to the ear rings, so as to avoid any damage to important working
components of the dryer and any effect on the operation performance of the machine. Since the
volume of belt type circumfluent dryer is comparatively large, so it is hoisted and transported in
separated parts when delivering.
See Fig. F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4 and F-5 for hoisting.
Note: Ropes shall be capable of bearing the weight of the part to be hoisted and shall be long

enough.

 Pay attention to hoist the dryer according to the sequence of installation serial
numbers, which are marked on the connecting places of the dryer components.

(2) Transportation

When the machine is to be delivered out of the manufacturer plant, a decision can made on

whether a package box is to used in accordance with the actual conditions. If a package box is not

to be used, weather-tight measures should be taken in transportation, and the equipment should

be protected against collision and overturning.

When packing, the machine and accessory parts should be fixed tightly in the packing box, and

clearances should be reserved between them and the walls of the box for avoiding any collision

damage in transportation. In case of excessive height of the machine, it should be split into parts

for easy transportation.

The temperature for normal transportation of the machine: -25~55℃

(3) Storage

(a) Requirement for long-term storage

The dryer may be set aside and unused for a long time, in such case the following measures

should be taken:

 When it is left unused and stored outdoors for a long time, measures against rain, sunshine,

water accumulation etc. should be taken;

 When it is left unused and stored indoors for a long time, there should be good provisions for

ventilation and damp-proofing.

(b) Requirement for short-term storage

The dryer that has been delivered to the jobsite may not be installed at once to the predetermined

position. In such case it must be stored with its original package in a place where wind, rain and

other outside harms can be avoided.

Unpacking and Inspection


When the machine has been delivered to a destination, open the package and check against

the packing list for any collision and wearing in transportation, carefully check the documents and

accessory parts delivered with the machine, and a good unpacking record should be placed on.

Mechanical Installation

 The machineries and components manufactured by Jiangsu Muyang Group shall be

installed only by the personnel with special skills under the direction of Muyang professional

technicians or according to the installation specifications specified in the documents provided

together with the equipment.

 If necessary, please call Muyang Group for installation consultation and pertinent

installation information.

 The personnel for installation, operation and maintenance of the equipment must read

over this chapter and have a good grasp of the contents.

(1) Installation foundation

Because the dryer has a large volume, anchor bolts should be reserved to ensure smooth and

steady installation of the machine.

The ground contacting with support legs of the dryer must be flat and rigid. During the installation,

pay attention to adjust the height of support legs, so that the dryer can be in horizontal status

entirely.

 If necessary, please contact Muyang engineering and technical personnel to obtain the

relevant technical parameters related to installation foundation.

For the installation foundation dimensions, please see the “Schematic diagram for installation
foundation” in Fig. F-9~F-11 in this chapter.

(2) Installation space

Drying is an operation carried out under relatively high temperature, so a sufficient space should

be reserved for working of the operator and repairman. And it should be ensured that all the

access doors can be easily opened for inspection and repair.

In order to ensure free air intake at the top of the dryer as well as smooth inspection and repair, at

least 1.2m open space should be retained at the top.

In order to guarantee that all the service doors around the dryer can be smoothly opened and
closed as well as sufficient activity space can be preserved for the operation and repair, it is
suggested to refer the preserved space around the machine in scaled drawings for installation of
the machine, Fig. F-6~Fig. F-8 in this chapter.

(3) Ventilation

Owing to the fact that drying operation needs a great deal of dry air, so attention should be paid to

the ventilation conditions in the room where the dryer is installed, and windows to be opened

frequently should be retained near the dryer to the best one’s ability.

(4) Assembly

The installation dimensions of all the main component parts of the dryer are completely uniform so

as to ensure their interchange in assembling. Even so, we still suggest that the customer should

carry out the installation under the guidance of the personnel in charge of installation or strictly in

accordance with the codes of the component parts.

For the detailed dimensions, see the scaled drawings for installation shown in Fig. F6~F8.

(5) Installation of conveying belt

(d) General installation procedure


The overall size of the dryer is relatively large, and the rotation shafts of conveying belt are
relatively far apart, therefore the center distance of its chain wheel is not easy to be adjusted. For
smooth and stable operation of the conveying belt, it is rational to:
a.Preset the rotation shafts, and keep them as parallel as possible with each other;
b.Install the chain with two screen belt brackets to be fitted at every 10 links, and the connecting
bolts should not be screwed tightly. Start the driving motor. Make fine adjustment as per the
operating state at both sides so that no climbing and derailing phenomena of the chain occur;
c.Simultaneously adjust the adjustable supports so that the chain can naturally drop down to the
guide rail at ease, and ensure that the chain and its accessories will not collide or rub with other
parts of the dryer during operation;
d. Install all the screen belt brackets and sweeping devices (of the second and forth layers of the
conveying belt), and the connecting bolts should not be screwed tightly (see Fig. F13, 13 and 14);
e.Operate the dryer’s conveying belt and further check the running stableness of the chain at least
for one-week operation;
f.Tightly screw all the bolts used for connecting the chain and chain accessories;
g.Overlap the screen belt well with a solid joint, see Fig. F-13;
h.If possible, restart the conveying belt and repeat the work as mentioned in the above points “c
and e”.

(e) Installation of chain guard plate


The final assembly of the dryer on site is a very important,
heavy and complicated work. If the details in the assembly are
ignored, the later operation and maintenance work will be
severely affected.
The chain guard plate (see Fig. F-12) should be installed
according to a certain rule, thus to lower the probability of
mechanic damage caused by a wrong Fig. F-12 Chain guard plate

We recommend the installation method indicated in Fig.F-13.

(f) Installation of conveying screen belt


 The screen is divided into polyester screen and stainless steel screen for the customer
to select.
 When installing the stainless steel screen, it shall be flatly laid and tensioned naturally.
 The polyester screen will be shrunken and deformed under high temperature. When
installing it, a surplus of 1.5%~2.5 % must be preformed in length direction (running
direction), i. e. between two brackets, or it is installed according to preformed holes at the
edge of the screen belt.
There are two types of conveying screen belts for the dryer: polyester woven screen and
stainless steel woven screen. They are assembled in a consistent sequence and method.
 For united description and easy exchange, this operation manual specifies that the
conveying belts of the dryer are named as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th layers orderly from top to
bottom.
The 1st and 3rd layers of the conveying belt are installed in the same method, and the 2nd and
4th layers of the conveying belt are installed also in the same method, the difference is that the
sweeping devices are provided on the 2nd and 4th layers for cleaning residue dust from the base
plate.
For installation of sweepers on all the layers as well as the 2nd and 4th layers of the conveying
belt, please obey the following contents.

Installation of the sweeper


The 2nd and 4th layers of the conveying belt are complete with sweepers for cleaning residue
dust and a few granules from two layers of base plate in the drying section.
Because of different types of the dryer purchased, the quantity of the sweepers matched is
also different, see Table F-1.
 In the installation, attention should be paid to distributing the sweepers onto the whole

conveying belt according to the quantity as evenly as possible, preventing individual

 If the sweepers are damaged in operation of the equipment, please shut down the dryer

at once, repair or dismount it in time, preventing other parts of the dryer from mechanic

damage!

 In case the sweepers are damaged, shut down the dryer at once, and then check the

dryer inside and mechanic components related to the sweepers for any damage under

the condition of guaranteeing the safety of personnel and machine, and repair it in time

if necessary!

The arrow in Fig. F-16 indicates the running direction of the conveying belt.
The corresponding correct running direction of the conveying belt can be determined
according to the mark of rotating direction on the guard shield of the driving device in the dryer.
Heavy canvas or canvas belt can be used for No. 7 “backing board” in Fig. F-16, and services
the function of protecting the screen at connecting and holding-down place, preventing the screen
belt from any damage caused by tearing of the sweepers during working.

(6) Installation of geared motor for the conveying belt


Because of limitation of sea and land transport, the geared motor may be dismounted from
the dryer that the customer has received. So the geared motor should be remounted on site.
The dryer is equipped with 4 layers of the conveying belt in total, which are driven individually,
and their transmission ratios are not completely consistent.
Usually, the transmission ratios of 1st and 3rd layer of the conveying belt are the same, and the
transmission ratios of 2nd and 4th layers of the conveying belt are the same. In the dryer with
standard configuration, the transmission ratios of 2nd and 4th layers of the conveying belt will be
much higher.
When installing the geared motor, attention should be paid to the type and the transmission

ratio on the nameplate of the geared motor, to avoid any error and affecting the operating
performance. For a correct configuration, see the “transmission ratio for each layer of conveying

Installation of steam system


 The design, installation and operation of the steam system should conform to the local
laws and specifications. The schematic diagram for steam system provided in this
operation manual is for customer’s reference only.
 The steam system should be installed by professionals who well know the installation
and manufacture technology of pressure system.

(1) Diagram of steam piping


The diagrams of steam piping for SKGD2400 type dryer are shown in Fig. F-18, Fig. F-19
and Fig. F-20.

The valves for the steam system of SKGD2400 series dryer belong to assemble optional for
the customer.
The “steam flow metering assemble” in the schematic diagram for steam system belongs to
assemble of the valves in the steam system optional for the customer.

(2) Other description


 A steam drum should be provided on the floor of the dryer, during operation the steam
pressure inside the steam drum must not be lower than 0.8MPa;
 A supply of compressed air should be preserved nearby steam adjusting valve, the
pressure must not be lower than 0.4 MPa;
 At the side of heat exchanger of each drying section, holes for steam piping entering

and exiting the dryer have been preformed, it is not necessary to make holes on the
dryer unless on special conditions;
 The installation inclination of drain lines is 1:100, and the drain lines can be connected
in series as per the site installation status of the dryer;
 Bypass branch should be at the same level with or higher than the drain valve to prevent
water accumulation in the bypass piping;
 If the there is a reducer in pipe line, it is prohibited to weld two pipes with different
diameters in the manner of concentric-circle welding at the joints so as to avoid water
accumulation in the pipe with major diameter;
 The manometer should be installed so that it is convenient to read the data;
 After the installation of steam pipes is finished, close the main pipes for steam adjusting
valves and drain valves, open the bypass and rinse them with steam to remove
impurities such as welding slag inside the pipes;
 Filters should be cleaned after pipe rinsing;
 There shall be no such failures as leakage and dropping in the steam piping, if any,
have them marked and repair them by welding in good time;
 The piping should be insulated after pressure testing and rinsing.
 The steam system is a high temperature operating system and dangerous in a certain
extent. In the installation, a sufficient space should be considered for operation and
maintenance in the future.

Installation of electric control system

(1) Schematic Diagram for Electric Control


See Fig. F-21.
Explanation:
 The customer should provide an over-voltage protection device for the power supply of
this machine;
 In order to ensure the safety of working place, please install an emergent button at the
position which is near the equipment and convenient for worker’s operation;
 The above schematic diagrams are only schematics for single machine operation, it is
necessary to consider the linkage and interlock between machines in front and behind this
equipment when designing the control system of the process flow;
 In the first 16 electrical schematic sheets, Part Ⅰis used for SKGD2400-4 type dryer;
 PartⅠ+ Ⅱ are used for SKGD2400-6 type dryer;
 PartⅠ+ Ⅱ+Ⅲ are used for SKGD2400-8 type dryer;

(2) Strong electricity


The site wiring of strong electricity can be carried out according to the diagrams for electric
control system, and the adjustment of rotating direction should be done;

(3) Rotating direction


Corresponding marks of are pasted on motor hoods.

(4) Control box


There are two modes of the local control for the dryer, local control box and touch screen, for the
customer to select.

 The interface for the local control box and touch screen must be complete with

safety button!

 The safety button should be pressed down after shutdown or when doing

maintenance work!

Function Inspection prior to initial commissioning

 Prior to inspection, please confirm that the personnel on site have known the

function inspection to be carried out soon!

 The function inspection including mechanic, electric and steam parts must be carried
out by personnel with technical qualification and ability in relevant specialties!

 If necessary, please call Muyang Group for installation consultation and pertinent installation
information.

 Operators and maintenance personnel of the equipment must carefully read this chapter.
(1) Important notice

Before being delivered out of the manufacture plant, a perfect commissioning has already

been conducted to the machine. The initial site commissioning can only be started after the

following procedures. G
(2) Function inspection in prior to initial commissioning

(a) It is necessary to check all the connecting points carefully, any loose is not allowed; check

all the parts and components of the dryer to make sure that they are all complete and not

damaged;

(b) Check all the geared motors, bearings for sufficient lubricating grease (oil);

(c) Check the conveying belts for free rotation, and any abnormal sound due to jamming,

collision and friction.

(d) Check the conveying belts for tension degree, and confirm that the adjustable supports

have been locked;

(e) Check the fasteners of the conveying belts, and confirm that there is no loose and falling

phenomenon;

(f) Check the driving motors of the conveying belts for their rotating direction, and confirm that

their rotating direction is correct;

(g) Check the driving motor of purification augur for their rotating direction, and confirm that

its rotating direction is correct;

(h) Check the motors of fans for their rotating direction, and confirm that their rotating

direction is correct;

(i) Check the steam system, and confirm that it is constructed according to the “diagram of

the steam system”;

(j) Check the steam piping, and confirm that it has been rinsed already;

(k) Check the steam piping, and confirm that there is no phenomenon of steam escape,

smoking, dropping and leakage;

(l) Check the filter in the steam system, and confirm that it has been cleaned already; check

all the bypasses in the steam system, and confirm that they have been closed already;

(m) Check the inside of the dryer, and confirm that the installation personnel and installation

tools have been evacuated from the site;

(n) Confirm once again that the above checking procedures have been carried out and the

occurring problems have been solved;

(o) Prepare the first startup.

Operation

(1) Attention points before startup and after shutdown

 Check the fasteners of conveying belt after stoppage of each working shift, repair for

any loose and falling off in good time;

 Timely clean the residues and dusts out of the dryer after stoppage of each working

shift;

 Timely clean the surroundings of the dryer after stoppage of each working shift;

 Immediately cut off steam supply after product is completely discharged at stoppage

of each working shift;

 Defer to close the circulating fan and the main air-intake fan for 15—30 minutes after

the steam supply is stopped, so as to cool the dryer and exhaust the steam inside

with an aim to avoid the internal components of the dryer from corrosion;

 Confirm that the dryer is cooled down after the production of each working shift to

avoid auto-ignition of the residues or dusts that have been heated by high

temperature inside the dryer;

 Check and confirm that there are no cleaning tools left inside the dryer before startup

of each working shift to avoid damage to the machine after startup.

 Check and confirm that all access doors and inner movable gates of the dryer have

been locked before startup for each working shift;

(2) Startup procedures

The following are the correct startup procedures recommended:

 Start the equipment for the next process step following the dryer;

 Start the motor of cleaning auger in the lower drying chamber;

 Start the motor of the forth layer of conveying belt;

 Start the motor of the third layer of conveying belt;

 Start the motor of cleaning auger in the upper drying chamber;

 Start the second layer of conveying belt;

 Start the first layer of conveying belt;

 Start the motor of circulating fan;

 Start the steam system and preheat for 15—20 minutes;

 Start the motor of the main fan;

 Start the motor of the spreader;

 Start feeding for dry operation.

(3) Shutdown

The following are the shutdown procedures recommended:

 Cut off steam supply to the steam system;

 Shutdown the motor of the spreader;

 Wait till the equipment is cooled down;

 Shutdown the motor of the circulating fan;

 Shutdown the motor of the main air-intaking fan;

 Shutdown the motor of the first layer of conveying belt;

 Shutdown the motor of the second layer of conveying belt;

 Shutdown the motor of the cleaning auger in the upper drying chamber;

 Shutdown the motor of the third layer of conveying belt;

 Shutdown the motor of the forth layer of conveying belt;

 Shutdown the motor of cleaning auger in the lower drying chamber;

 Clean the dryer;

 Prepare for the next operation.

(4) Others

The starting and stopping procedures in this Chapter are recommended methods, and the

sequence can be slightly adjusted according to specific usage conditions. The principle for

starting is that the rear motors should be started prior to the front ones. While the principle for

stopping is that the front motors should be stopped prior to the rear ones.

 The operators should understand the machine structure and know well the machine

performance and operation method, and have passed through the training organized

by Jiangsu Muyang Group or some special training courses.

 Material should be fed uniformly during production, and can not be sometimes more

and sometimes less, so as to guarantee that the motors can work under the rated

loads.

 The machine must idly run for 20~30 min after the work is finished, and cab not be

shut down until all the materials have been discharged out of the machine.

 If any abnormal problem occurs during operation of the dryer, it should be shut down

and checked at once, and can not be started again until the cause of fault has been

found out and eliminated.

 Temperature rise of the main bearings (It refers to the raised temperature based on

environmental temperature) should not be higher than 35℃, and not exceed 70℃ in

maximum (when the environmental temperature is not higher than 40℃).

 Cleaning and necessary checking should be well done after the work of each shift is

over.

Adjustment of the equipment

 DO NOT conduct any mechanical adjustment on the equipment when it is running!


(1) Adjustment of conveying belt

 Running speed of conveying belt determines drying period of material in drying

chamber;

 Running speed of conveying belt determines the accumulation thickness of

material on the conveying belt;

 Hot air is not easy to pass through material arising from excessive thickness of

material, so that drying effect will be influenced;

 It is recommended that material thickness shall be not more than 10cm;

 Conveying belt is driven by frequency conversion motor, running speed of

conveying belt can be controlled through changing rotation speed of the motor

by frequency converter;

 If a local operating system of Muyang dryer has been selected, the drying time

for each layer of conveying belt can be inputted directly from the operating

interface.

(2) Tensioning of driving links

Positions required tensioning are shown as follows:

 Driving chains of conveying belt, four places;

 Chains of conveying belt, four places;

 Driving chains of spreader, one place;

 Driving belts of circulating fan, several places.

(3) Adjustment of spreader

Refer to “Fig. D-4 Schematic diagram for structure of spreader” of Part D in this Operation

Manual.

 The spreader influences the spreading scope of material on conveying belt;

 Move connection rod outward alongside amplitude adjusting plate (i.e. distant

from centre of gyration of the spreader), it will reduce spreading area of

material; vise versa, it will increase spreading area of material;

 Knuckle bearings are set at both ends of the connection rod; using screws of

both ends of the connection rod can adjust the length of it. Adjust the length of

connection rod before carrying material to make oscillating material tube

symmetrical at its gyration center on two limit positions. Otherwise, it will cause

severe difference on thickness of material on both sides of conveying belt.

(4) Adjustment of air intake gate

 Opening of air intake gate determines the volume of fresh air to be

complemented;

 There are ten small round holes on adjusting plate of air intake gate arranged

in a line, which can be used as a scale for measuring the opening of the air

gate;

 When it is determined that steam quality conforms to the requirement, but

temperature of hot air cannot be up to the preset value, which may be caused

by excessive opening of air intake gate, so the air gate can be closed properly;

 In general, recommended opening of air gate is around 30%;

 If a local operating system of Muyang dryer has been selected, the opening of

circulating air gate can be adjusted according to the humidity display values of

circulating air on the operating interface.

(5) Adjustment of air exhaust gate

 Opening of air exhaust gate determines discharge amount of waste gas after

drying;

 Opening of air exhaust gate can be read through the position of adjusting

handle;

 There are small observation windows set on both sides of the air exhaust gate,

through which actual opening of blade of air gate can be observed;

 Opening of air exhaust gate at the end of exhaust system can be increased

properly.

 If a local operating system of Muyang dryer has been selected, the opening of

air exhaust can be adjusted according to the temperature and humidity display

values of exhausted air on the operating interface.

(6) Adjustment of circulating air gate

Repair and Maintenance

Cleaning

 The machine should be operated strictly according to the operation requirement, and each

shift must carry out necessary checking and cleaning.

 DO NOT repair and maintain the equipment when it is running.


 If necessary, please call Muyang Group for installation consultation and pertinent installation
information.

 Operators and maintenance personnel of the equipment must carefully read this chapter.
 Clean the residual materials and dust of the dryer after each working shift;

 Timely clean the dust and materials discharged by the cleaning auger during and after

each shift;

 Clean the surroundings of the dryer after each shift;

 Regularly clean the filter in steam piping;

 Regularly clean the material carried by the conveying belt of the dryer;

 Regularly clean the pulley of circulating fan to avoid greater vibration during high speed

rotation due to excessive dust deposit.

Repair and Maintenance

Normal maintenance
 Equipment and its surroundings shall be kept clean;

 Check the fastening of driving belt when a new equipment have run for about one week

to prevent it from slippage. This mainly refers to the driving belt of circulating fan of the

equipment;

 Regularly check the movable parts and fixed parts inside the dryer, repair or purchase

new fittings in good time if damaged; it is not allowed to operate the equipment with

failure.

Regular maintenance

(1) Lubrication

Some moving and rotating parts of the drier needs to be lubricated, including:

 Geared motor for driving the conveying belt, four lubricating points;

 Geared motor for driving the cleaning auger, two lubricating points;

 Geared motor for driving the spreader, one;

 Bearings of the circulating fan, the number of lubricating points varies with the type

of dryer;

 The driving chains between the driving motor of conveying belt and the driving shaft;

 Support bearing of driving shaft, eight lubricating points;

 Support bearing of driven shaft, eight lubricating points.

(2) Types of grease (lubricating oil)

Designation and code of lubricating grease see table I-1 or the lubrication grease (oil)

specified in the instruction manual.
