i) Zero sequence component in 3-phase voltage of delta connected system is

(a) Line voltage

(b) Zero
(c) Line voltage*√ 3
(d) Line voltage/√ 3

that in GS method.
c) Number of iteration required is not independent of the size of the system in
the NR method.
d) Convergence characteristic of the NR method are not affected by the selection
of slack bus
v) For the transformer connection shown below

GROUP- B

(Short answer type questions)

Answer any one of the following. 1X10 = 10

2. A double line-to-ground fault occurs on phase b and c of an unloaded generator,

derive a sequence- network representation of this condition and determine the fault
current. 10
GROUP- C

(Long answer type questions)

Answer any one of the following. 1×20= 20

3. a) What are the advantages of using Newton Raphson method over Gauss Seidel
method for solving load flow problem? 5

b) Determine the values of symmetrical components of a system of currents I R= 0

+ j120 A, IY= 50 – j100 A and IB= -100 – j50 A. Phase sequence is RYB. 6

c) A 25 MVA, 11 kv generator has a X0"= 0.2 pu. Its negative and zero sequence
reactances are respectively 0.3 and 0.1 pu. The neutral of the generator is solidly
grounded. Determine the sub-transient current in the generator and the line-to-line
voltages for sub-transient conditions when an LG fault occurs at the generator
terminals. Assume that before the occurrence of the fault, the generator is
operating at no load at rated voltage. Ignore resistances. 9
