Bullying

Prevention
My Inspiration
In 2017 everyone's lives changed. In
our community, May of 2017, we lost
2 beautiful souls, due to bullying.
One happened to be my best friend.
She was bullied all through
elementary and middle school. Our
Freshman Year she couldn’t handle
it anymore and she made the
decision to end her life. A week
before that Brooklyn, a senior, had
also taken her own life because of
bullying. These events changed our
whole town. These events changed
my entire life. Katie and Brooklyn
are my reason to help put an end to
bullying.
My life changed after I lost Katie. I
created this to be able to change
Purpose & another child's life, and to change
Impact their perspectives. This has made
the kids think and look at how
everything they do has an effect.
It all started last year at state
competitions. Menifee had came
to observe since we hadn’t made it
past regionals. As I was walking
around looking at different
How I projects, I came up with the idea of
started trying to prevent bullying from
happening at a younger age. The
trip home was full of ideas flying all
over the place and once I got
home I wrote everything down.
At regionals my project was simply
just an idea. It was scrambled and I
didn’t have a complete grasp on
my concept. Since then my idea
At turned into a reality, I have worked
Regionals: with the 4th through 8th grades at
Menifee K-8 and watched them
grow from the beginning of my
project to the end.
I then started to create my lessons.
I done a lot of research, and chose
different activities for them to do.
How I They also had a video to watch
started with each lesson, I also had them
take a survey, at the beginning
and the end of the lessons.
The first lesson was, well to be honest it was the least
entertaining out of them all. We went over the survey
results, and I asked them what they thought the
responses would be. We then went over each
individual question, with the real responses that came
from the survey. To end this lesson we watched a
Lesson 1 video from youtube, of a song called “Hey Bully,” they
Bullying done a word cloud while listening to the song as well.
Prevention After they were to reflect on their feelings, and their
thoughts throughout the lesson. I then challenged
them to watch their actions this week and be more
nice to everyone.
The second lesson focused on going over vocabulary
that’s commonly used with the word Bullying. Like
“victim, target, bystander, and upstander” We went
over each word using the dictionary definition, then I
defined them in my own words, and had them define
Lesson 2 them as well. After we got through each word, we
Positivity watched a video, and again done a word cloud, and
reflected over their thoughts and feelings from the
video and the lesson. After that we quickly defined
the word “positivity” and then created posters to be
hung around the school, and town.
Cuts the deepest out of all four lessons, we went over
what it means to be different. I asked them questions
like “what if someone walks, talks, looks, or acts
differently than you?” I told them that no one is just
alike and that they think themselves and their best
friend is just alike but they’re not. I told them that
their friends had common interests as they do but
Lesson 3 their no just alike. I asked them “why aren’t we
Everyone’s encouraging each other?” and other questions similar
Different to that. We then watched a video, done another word
cloud. Then the reflection from that lesson was a
longer one and I gave them a little longer than I did
during other reflections. After that going along with
the theme of everyone is different each student
created their own puzzle piece, because there is no
two puzzle pieces the same.
The final lesson we went over types of bullying, and
what each means. We compared being rude to being
nice, and the effects from each one. We talked about
statistics, like how 9/10 kids have been bullying, and
6/10 kids have been the bully. It don’t matter on age,
or gender. I created a chart for kids to ask themselves
“Is it bullying?” and “Are you tattling or reporting?”
Lesson 4 After that I challenged them to be kind to as mean
The End is Only people as they can. I told them an experience I once
the Beginning had with being kind, and the effects of doing one act
of kindness. I gave them a few examples of things
they could do. Then we watched 2 videos, and done a
word cloud. They done a short reflection, then we
done an ending quiz. Then as their activity we done
kindness cards, they chose who they wanted to make
them for, then they designed them themselves.
The Survey:
