Week Two - Research

RESEARCH

What did you learn from your From week 2 I learned from my research:
research? I learned about my medium and I know now what I need to do in
order to achieve the style and narrative of my documentary.
From analysing the clips of documentaries, it has given me a
variety of ideas and techniques I can use within my
documentary. I also have a very clear understanding of my topic
in depth.

How has the research for your The research for my medium has helped me improve my ideas
medium helped you improve your because I know about how I can use my conventions of a typical
ideas? documentary to know the structure and narrative. I can use to
tell my story through these typical yet effective techniques. These
techniques will also help me in ways my target audience can be
engaged. I also know about the history of how documentaries
have progressed over the years and what techniques the
filmmakers were using as it has slowly developed into a modern
documentary. I researched the six different types of
documentaries this has allowed me to think about which style I
want depending on what effect I want to have on my audience
and also what I will include in my documentary, for example :
such as voice overs and interviews. I know now what effect I
want my documentary to have on my audience because not
only will my factual programme educate young people
especially on the topic. I want to inspire change, because
anything will be possible if you want to change the world for the
better. And I’m very passionate about this subject and I know for
a fact that there many girls out there who campaigning to make
street harassment illegal. So, although it may be hard it is possible
to inspire young girls especially with this ongoing issue that needs
to stop now.

How has the research for your genre I have analysed two documentaries that are like the topic and
helped you improve your ideas? style and genre of documentary I'm going for. This has helped
me improve my ideas because I learned how these professionals
demonstrate the way they filmed it the camera angles and short
locations storyline structure lighting and mise-en-scene theme
post op I have used a lot of these ideas in the way it is portrayed.
Which has improved my ideas re researching the conventions of
any generous helpful into knowing this style of my genre. This has
led me to ideas of how I can visually present in order to engage
my target audience.

How has researching the conventions Through researching the conventions of my chosen genre, it has
of your chosen genre helped you helped me understand what is required in order to meet a
understand what is required from you distinction grade. This is because through researching the
in order to meet a distinction grade? conventions of my genre I have understood a clear concept of
my topic for my factual program. Which has enabled me to see
what sort of style would be best for the effect I want my
audience to have and what I want to show within my
documentary visually but also what I can include through
content and voice overs. I have thought about this in depth after
researching my genre and analysing videos. I know now what is
required to meet the distinction grade. I need to be able to
analyse my research in depth and detail to help me progress my
factual programme.

How has including a variety of sources Including a variety of sources such as: primary and
(primary and secondary) helped with secondary research has helped me with the understanding
your understanding of your medium /
genre? of my medium and genre because this secondary research
has enabled me to find out more about the content of my
idea. And how I can use this to make my genre quite a
serious topic presenting fact therefore gives the shocking
effect on my audience. Through my Primary research I have
found out that many of people think it's important that my
documentary should either be between aro und 10 to 20
minutes however a couple of people thought it would be
important if the documentary would be around 30 to 45
minutes because it is short factual program overall I've
decided that it should be important for my Bachelor
program to be around 10 to 15 minutes. This has helped me
have a further understanding of my medium and genre of my
factual program.

How has the research for your The research for my content has helped me improve my ideas
content/topic helped you improve because through secondary and primary research, I have learnt
your ideas? that my young target audience want to see more of a positive
side to Street harassment. I can do this by showing that there is
hope that street harassment can end, and it is possible if you start
off by campaigning like small action can lead to big changes. I
can make my documentary very inspiring so that most people
would want to help make Street harassment illegal as it's still an
ongoing issue. This has helped me improve my idea of my
content as I know which direction, I can be going in in order to
please my target audience. I also found out shocking statistics
and facts on my topic that I can use in my documentary. This will
have the effect that the audience because not only do I want it
to be positive I also want it to be presented as quite serious
matter because it is a delicate topic so therefore I can use these
facts to shock the audience. Which leads to the audience
wanting Street harassment stop however everyone is entitled to
their own opinions, but my documentary will be quite biased in
the way as I form my opinion through my factual program.

What work do you need to complete I’m on track so far.
