A. The Problem of ELT
English language is a global language. Learning English improves the individual’s
status and opportunities in education, technology, global trades, and business.
Moreover, English plays an important role like a channel of communication
(Kannan, 2009). The students belong to countries where the English language is not a
native language to learn the English language as a second language.
Nowadays learning the English language is very important for the students. They
join different institutes for learning the English language. Where the English teachers
teach the English language to them. Teaching the English language to non-English
speakers is not an easy job for the teachers. The quality of a good teacher to recognize
the problems and facilitate the best ever environments for the students and encourage
them to learn.
Speaking is one of the four language skills (reading, writing, listening and
speaking). It is the means through which learners can communicate with others to
achieve certain goals or to express their opinions, intentions, hopes and viewpoints. In
addition, people who know a language are referred to as ‘speakers’ of that language.
Furthermore, in almost any setting, speaking is the most frequently used language
skill.
Speaking has usually been compared to writing, both being considered
"productive skills", as opposed to the "receptive skills" of reading and listening.
Speaking also is closely related to listening as two interrelated ways of
accomplishing communication. Every speaker is simultaneously a listener and every
listener is at least potentially a speaker (Oprandy, 1994: 153 & EL Menoufy, 1997: 9).

ORAI - AI COMMUNICATION FOR ELT

English classrooms have been transformed to a higher level along with the rapid
development of technology. Students are required to master not only the language but also to
cope with the rapidly growing technology applied in assisting the teaching and learning
process. Teachers around the world have been exploring the best ways to integrate
technology to facilitate learning and improve students’ English skills especially speaking as a
way to communicate feelings, express thoughts, share ideas, convey information, and
present facts. Given the context that students have limited opportunities to practice the
language, speaking English can be very challenging and frightening for students. The
importance of having authentic language learning situations needs to be addressed to
advance students’ English communication skills both inside and outside the classroom
(Alharbi, 2015; Leong & Ahmadi, 2017).
The rapid development of technology has brought a significant change in
English classrooms. Nowadays, the use of technology plays a significant role in teaching and
learning activities as students are more driven and enthusiastic when technology is
utilized to facilitate learning. Orai application is proposed to improve students’ ability to
comprehend authentic literature and speaking skills.
This app is simply equivalent to speaking into a mirror. It offers an interesting
solution to a common problem; for example, it picks up filler words like the number of “ums”
that is uttered and points them out to the speaker as unnecessary filler words that are signs of
hesitation. It also tells the speaker if she/he is speaking too fast… or too slow and provides
his/her a transcript of what speaker just said - which highlights speaker’s varying energy or
lack thereof. Furthermore, it tells the speaker how clearly speaker is enunciating words and
counts the number of words that the speaker says in a minute, monitoring the pace of her/his
speech. Finally, Orai measures the “energy” of speaker speech, like whether she/he speaks in
a monotone that will put people to sleep or whether she/he emphasizes certain words
(Takahashi, 2017).

CONCLUSION
This application is very useful for students or learners because in this application can
improve students ability to comprehend authentic literature and speaking skills and this is to
facilitate students towards the final level to college. use will not be in vain Because this
application has so many benefits for students.
