Q.2 The following data relate to the accounts of M/s Noor Enterprises for the year ended Dec 31st, 2018:
i) Advertising expense paid for one year on Aug 05, 2018 Rs. 18,000 which was initially recorded as
advance advertising.

ii) On Oct 1 , 2018 rent income account was credited for Rs. 4,800 represent rent for the portion of office
building for the period of 10 months.
iii) The company paid Rs. 5,000 for office supplies which was initially recorded as an asset but at the end
of the year out of total office supplies, worth Rs. 3,000 was consumed.
iv) The prepaid insurance account shows a debit balance of Rs. 7,200 representing the payment of
premium for three years upto April 30, 2021.
v) An office equipment purchased on Sep 1st, 2018 having total cost of Rs 55,000 with resale value of Rs
5,000 and had an estimated useful life of 10 years. (record depreciation)
vi) The rent expense account has a balance of Rs. 9,000 which was one year rent paid in advance on May
05th, 2018.
vii) Interest is accrued on Note receivable Rs. 1,200.
viii) Interest is accrued for six months @ 12% P.a on notes payable of Rs. 5000.
ix) Bad debt expense are estimated on net credit sales of Rs. 250,000 @ 2.5%.
x) Paid salary in advance on July 1, 2018 for six months Rs. 36,000.

Q.4 ACCOUNTING FOR FIXED ASSETS

On April 11 2013 Waqar Ltd. purchased a Machine for Rs. 9,00,000 for cash and paid transportation
and installment cost of Rs. 50,000, its useful life was estimated to be 16 years with scrap value of Rs. 300,000.
The Co. uses sum of the year digit method for computing depreciation and the accounts are closed on Dec 31st
each year.

On July 10 , 2016 the co. decided that the estimated useful life of machine should be 18 years instead
of 16 years and the scrap value should be Rs. 230,000 instead of Rs.300,000.
On Sep 1st, 2019 the machine was traded in with a new machine having list price of Rs. 13,00,000. The trade
in allowance of old machine was Rs. 75,000 less than of its book value and the balance was paid in cash. (The
Co. uses book value method for recording depreciation after revised life).

Q.5 BANK RECONCILIATION STATEMENT


On December 31, 2018 the accounting records of CRECENT COMPANY showed cash in bank
Rs. 91,250, while the bank statement on the same date showed a balance of Rs. 80,940. A comparison of the
bank statement with the company records revealed the following items causing disagreement:
i) Cheques of Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 5,000 deposited on December 30 and 31 respectively were not shown on
the bank statement.
ii) Cash receipts of Rs. 4,560 on December 31 were deposited too late to appear on bank statement.
iii) Cheques for Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 12,000 issued on December 15 and 19 respectively, were not presented
in bank for payment upto December 31.
iv) Direct deposit by a customer, Mr. Rashid Rs. 2,800 was not entered in the records of Crecent Company.
v) A cheque of a customer, Mr. Shahid for Rs. 2,500 deposited on December 25 was dishonoured with the
remarks of ‘not sufficient fund’.
vi) An interest bearing note of Rs. 7,000 paid by the bank on behalf of the Crecent Company was not
recorded in the company records. Bank statement shows a debit of Rs. 7,140.
vii) A non-interest bearing note of Rs. 6,000 collected by the bank for the Crecent Company was not
recorded by the company accountant.
viii) A cheque for Rs. 8,000 issued by Crecent Corporation was wrongly debited by the bank to the account
of Crecent Company.
ix) Bank statement showed debit entries of Rs. 150 for service charges, Rs. 250 for Zakat and Rs. 100 for
income tax. These items were not recorded in the company books.
x) Profit of Rs. 1,000 allowed by the bank was not recorded by the company accountant.
xi) A depost of Rs. 2,700 was wrongly credited by bank as Rs. 7,200.
xii) Cheque no. 415978 for Rs. 5,000 issued in payment of advertising expense was not recorded in the
company records.
xiii) A cheque received from a customer, Abdul Rauf for Rs. 2,980 was deposited in bank, but it was
recorded as Rs. 2,890 in the company records.

Q.6 VALUATION OF ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE


Hamid Co. sells merchandise to its customers on credit. The terms in all cases are Twenty days. The
company’s accounting year ends on Dec. 31, each year. The Co. provides an allowance for doubtful debts
equal to:
i) 10% to all balances not due.
ii) 15% to all balances which are 1-30 days past due.
iii) 20% to all balances which are 31-60 days past due.
iv) 40% to all balances which are above 60 days past due.

ii) Issued a 12%, 60 days note in settlement of an outstanding voucher for Rs. 8,000.
iii) Issued cheques for Rs. 2,500 to establish petty cash fund.
iv) Purchased merchandise from Tahir Traders for Rs. 8,500 on terms 3/10, n/30.
v) Purchased a computer for Rs. 18,000, paying Rs. 8,000 and signing a note for the balance.
vi) Issued a Debit memo to Tahir Traders fro Rs. 500 for return of defective merchandise.
vii) Issued a cheque for Rs. 2,500 to increase the PettyCash fund to replenish the fund for postage expense
Rs. 1,200 Entertainment exp. Rs. 900 & miscellaneous exp. Rs. 400.
viii) Issued a 10% 30 days note for Rs. 3,000 and paid Rs. 3,500 in settlement of a voucher payable for Rs.
6,000.

The object of learning is not simply to pass examination; therefore, cramming should be
discouraged. It gives us superficial knowledge which goes out of our minds as soon as we pass the
examination. Deep knowledge and sound education cannot be acquired by cramming; these can be
obtained by intellectual application. The object of education is to train our facilities. And if a holder of
academic distinctions possesses an uncultivated mind. He does not stand a good chance of success
in life. Cramming kills one’s power of original thinking. One learns to rely too much on the judgment
of others and so cannot form original thinking.
