Pangalay.

Dance Researcher: Francisca Reyes-Aquino
Meaning: Fingernail
Place origin: Sulu
Country of Influences: Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, Cambodia, and
Indonesia.
Classification: Social Dance
Background/Context:
Pangalay – also known as Daling-Daling or Mengalai in Sabah.
- The traditional “fingernail” dance of Tausug people of Sulu
archipelago and Sabah.
- Performed mainly during weddings or other festive events.
Dance properties
Costume: Dancer wears a typical Joloana costume.
Accessories: Janggay, an extended metal fingernails.
Footwear: Barefoot
