1. Scope

The purpose of this Method Statement is to describe the steps involved in Excavation,
Backfilling and Compaction for Utility Lines at car parking in accordance and compliance
with approved shop drawings and project’s Specifications.

2. References

2.1. Specifications

a) Division 02 Sitework - Section 02200 - Earthwork

2.2. Project Quality Plan:

a) Ref # K1502-GACA-DCS-QC-17-0001-R-1

3. Materials

a) Satisfactory Excavated soil materials for backfilling

b) Sand for pipe bedding

4. Delivery, Storage and Handling

a) Satisfactory Excavated Materials. Shall be piled neatly along the side of the trench
by the mean of Backhoe and to be used later in backfilling after final testing of
pipeline by the mean of Skid-steer loader (Bobcat).

b) Bedding Materials. Shall be imported and delivered to the site by the mean of
tractor where the bedding material will be piled near the work area. Sand will be
placed by the mean of Bobcat/ Backhoe.

5. Quality

All works are carried out in accordance with the project quality plan (PQP) and the
approved ITP which will be issued after the Method Statement Approval.

Other specific requirements are listed below:

a) One test for classification of soil according to ASTM D 2487 for every 1000 m2 for
every completed layer.

b) One test of field density according to ASTM D 1556 or ASTM D 2167 as

appropriate for every 500 m2 for every completed layer but not less than one test
per day for each type of material placed.

5) Place and compact sand bedding material with thickness 20 cm by plate compactor to
a maximum density of 90%.

6) Check of levels of bedding material by survey team.

7) After pipes have been bedded, surveyed and tested. Backfilling with satisfactory
excavated material will be done by backhoe/Bobcat in one thick lift (Max 900 mm) to
protect the pipes from cracking/crunching under compaction loads up to an elevation
of mm above crown level of pipe and compacted to maximum density of 90%.

8) Backfill with satisfactory excavated material with 95% compaction density up to bottom
level of slab on grade in 300 mm compacted layers.

10. Tolerances

a) Excavation shall be performed to elevations and dimensions within a tolerance of

30 mm.
