Press Release December 16, 2010

10ID launches “Pamaskong Handog 2010”

As people from different walks of life celebrate yuletide season, soldiers have
their own way of commemorating Christmas time. Dubbed as “Pamaskong Handog
2010”, various activities will be undertaken by the different units under the 10th Infantry
Division with the communities in their respective area of responsibility.

The 1003rd Infantry Brigade based in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte was the first
unit to implement the program on December 10, 2010 with the gift-giving program and
parlor games that brought fun to more or less 500 lumads and special children from
barangays San Jose, New Visayas and Talomo of said municipality. The program was
implemented in partnership with the local government unit of Sto Tomas through its
Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).

Task Force Davao under Colonel Rey Leonardo Guerrero is also implementing
its “Pinaskuhan sa Lumad 2010”. In partnership with the Supreme Tribal Council for
Peace and Development, United Muslim Council for Peace and Development and with
the support of 54 partner-organizations and individuals, the program aims to provide
food packages to 2,000 lumad and Muslim families in Davao City. Initial distribution was
conducted on Friday, December 11 which benefitted 937 families belonging to different
tribes and Muslim communities. The 69th Infantry Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel
Aniano Orap-Orap will do distribution in Barangay Paquibato and Malabog on Thursday,
December 16, 2010.

The 39th Infantry Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Artuz held on
Wednesday, December 15, 2010 a gift-giving program in Barangay Zone 1, Sta Cruz,
Davao del Sur. Previously categorized as a communist-influenced barangay, residents
of Barangay Zone 1 have bonded together and renounced their support to the
underground movement because of the peace and development programs implemented
by the Army soldiers in their area.

Other Army units under 10ID will also undertake their program soon.

On Sunday, December 19, 2010, the Division will hold its own program in
Barangay Salvacion, Mawab, Compostela Valley Province. Various services such as
free haircut, shoe and umbrella repair, musical entertainment, parlor games and gift
giving will be offered during the half day event which will culminate with a Christmas
Party with 140 children of said barangay.

Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Cabanalan, the Acting CMO Staff Officer of the 10 th
Infantry Division and proponent of the “Pamaskong Handog 2010” program has
emphasized that gift giving and sharing one’s blessing is the true essence of Christmas.
He said, “Through this simple program, our people will know that our soldiers are one
with them in celebrating the birth of our Great Savior.”
