GETRAG Transmission Family 5MTT152 / 5/6MTT215 (MX65)

Modular ManualShift transmission family MX65 (5MTT152 / 6MTT215) for low and medium torque
Engines in transversally installed Front Wheel Drive applications.

Manual transmissions will continue to dominate the global

passenger car vehicle market, especially in the lower cost
segments and cost sensitive markets. Getrag answers that
demand with an all new modular manual transmission family
that delivers best fuel and cost efficiency as well as best-in-
class torque density. With three different derivatives (5MTT152,
5MTT215, 6MTT215) the MX65 delivers a modular state-of-the-
art transmission concept that can be adapted to the different
global customer and market requirements of the future.

In order to adapt to the variety of vehicles in its sector and to satisfy the customers’ demands, the MX65 offers a
modular five to six speeds transmission split into three different derivatives covering a wide range of engines,
going up to 150Nm or 215Nm. Each of those derivatives contains different characteristics allowing customers to
choose the derivative that fits perfectly to their engine and vehicle requirements.

As an essential part of the powertrain in a vehicle, the transmission contributes significantly to a car’s fuel
efficiency. To meet the globally increasing CO2 reduction goals, one major focus during the design process of
new MX65 has been the reduction of parasitic losses and a strict focus on light-weight design, always keeping
the affordability in mind. The use of a low-friction transmission oil minimizes metal-to-metal contact and thus
further improves the transmission efficiency. Moreover, the transmission can optionally be equipped with an
AMT (automated shift gear system) or a gear neutral sensor enabling the use of a start-/stop system.

Following the Getrag targets to improve the drivability and to provide a first class shift comfort to all of its
transmissions, the transmission is built with a Synchronized Reverse gear improving the shiftability and
reducing the shifting effort significantly. In addition, the MX65 has been thought out and built following a
modular approach, with the use of triple synchronizers for the 1st & 2nd gear and double synchronizers for the 3rd
gear, which allows tuning of shiftability with low efforts bringing the transmission up to best in class
performance.
At the same time, with a maximum weight of 29.5Kg (dry) and the possibility to deliver up to 215Nm, the MX65
places itself at best in class for torque/weight performance. Compared to the known 5MTT170 this reflects a
torque/weight ratio improvement by more than 50%. The wide gear ratio spread from 4.8 to 6.0 allows the
transmission to be fitted to a broad engine range of gas and diesel engines.

In a constant quest to deliver the best product at the best price, Getrag has put a lot of effort into the process to
reach its objectives. With this aim in mind, the maximum number of parts is being shared between the three
derivatives and instead of a double mass flywheel; the MX65 carries a single mass flywheel providing further
cost savings.

With all its attributes, such as modularity, efficiency or shiftability, at competitive level, this new MX65
transmission brings to the customer a best in class product at an affordable price.
