Childhood and Education General Ahmad Yani

Achmad Yani was born on June 19, 1922 in Jenar, Purworejo, Central Java. He is a member
of the Wongsoredjo family, a family that works in a Dutch sugar factory. He and his family
moved to Batavia in 1927 because his father now worked for the Dutch General. In Batavia,
he worked and also took his education at HIS (equivalent to SD) Bogor and graduated in
1935, then he continued his education to MULO (equivalent to SMP) class B Afd. Bogor and
graduated in 1938. After that, he continued to AMS (equivalent to SMA / SMU) part B Afd.
Jakarta, but his education at AMS only reached grade 2 because of the missile announced by
the Netherlands Indies Government to undergo compulsory military service.

Ahmad Yani attended military topography education in Malang, Central Java and more
deeply in Bogor and he got the rank of Sergeant. His education was disrupted because of the
arrival of Japan in 1942 and at the same time he and his family moved again to Central Java.
In 1943, Ahmad Yani joined and joined Heiho Education in Magelang and after that he
joined the Peta army in Bogor.
Military Career Ahmad Yani
After the TKR or People's Security Army was formed, Achmad Yani was appointed as the
leader of the Purwokerto TKR. At the time of the Dutch Military Aggression I, He and his
troops managed to withstand the Dutch attack in their area of duty, namely in the Pingit
area. Because of this, during the Military Aggression II, he was believed to serve as
Commander of Wehrkreise II. After Indonesia gained recognition of its sovereignty, Yani was
given the task of fighting the troubled Darul Islam / Indonesian Islamic Army (DI / TII) forces
in Central Java, then formed the Bull Raiders who were equipped with special training to
fight the DI / TII forces and finally the DI / TII forces TII was defeated.

In December 1955, Achmad Yani was sent to the United States to study at the Command
and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, USA. There he underwent education
for 9 months, then in 1956 he attended education in the Special Warfare Course, England
for 2 months.

In 1958, there was a PRRI rebellion in West Sumatra and Ahmad Yani who was appointed
Colonel was appointed Commander of the August 17 Operations Command to fight the
rebellion and succeeded in winning. Because of his achievements, in 1962 Yani was
appointed Commander / Minister of the Army.
The death of Ahmad Yani

Ahmad Yani, who always differed with the Indonesian Communist Party, when the PKI
wanted the formation of a Fifth Force consisting of workers and peasants who were given
weapons, Yani refused. Because of this, the PKI made Yani one of the targets of 7 top Army
officers who would be kidnapped and killed through the G30S / PKI Rebellion.

In the early hours of the morning of October 1, 1965, the kidnappers came to Yani's house
and claimed that they would pick up Yani to be brought to meet the president. He asked for
time to take a shower and change clothes but was refused and he was angry and slapped
one of the kidnappers and tried to close the door of his house . A kidnapper then opened
fire on Yani, Yani's body was taken to Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta with another murdered
person, then all the bodies were hidden in a used well.

On October 4, the bodies of Achmad Yani and all the victims were found and on the
following day they were buried in the Heroes' Cemetery, together with Presidential Decree
Number 111 / KOTI / 1965 Achmad Yani and his colleagues were declared Heroes of the
Revolution and Achmad Yani was promoted to General rank as General Posthumous.
