The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India with


support from Ministry of External Affairs is organizing 3rd BRICS
Urbanization Forum. The State of Andhra Pradesh is hosting the event in
the coastal city of Vasakhapatnam during 14-16 September, 2016 with
Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) as the host city secretariat.

2. The National Institute of Urban Affairs, a premier institute for


research, capacity building and dissemination of knowledge for the urban
sector in India, is the knowledge partner for this event.

3. The 3.d Urbanization Forum with the theme "Urban Transition in


BRICS' will ensure that key issues of urbanization are placed on the global
agenda of the BRICS member countries and the thematic issues will focus
on building productive and sustainable urban economies and livelihood
survival strategies in urban environments as well as creating inclusive
urban spaces. Also, all these countries have been experimenting with
various policies addressing housing challenges, skilling and empowering
the marginalized sections, new town developments, harnessing the power of
technolory through smart city interventions and increasing public
participation in local governance.

4. Participation of around 500 delegates is expected with


representation from mayors, decision makers, practitioners and urban
think tanks communities from BRICS member countries.
5. On behalf of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of
India, I extend our cordial invitation to you to attend, as a Keynote
apeaker, for the Iaaugural Session, This session will be setting the
context for the consequent plenary session on National Urban Agenda and
subsequent thematic sessions.

6. Funding urban infrastructure projects has been a common


challenge for cities across the BRICS member countries and globally. In
your capacity as President of New Development Bank, we believe, an insider
view on the role of NDB as a key institute in facilitating the urban agenda of
emerging economies and developing countries would bring value to the
discourse of BRICS Forum'
