“The Purge Reflection”

Back when 2013 here was a horror movie/film in which Americans were
legally allowed to commite crime, one night per year which was entitled “The Purge”.
Purging is to remove people from an are, country or any organization; often in a
violent and sudden way (Merriam Webster). It was directed and written by James De
Manaw. One of the character mourning that “things will never be the same ever
again”. That line was a cringe-worthy given that the character just watched peple she
loves hurt somebody without hesitation, yet we didn’t know that anyone in the
movie/film well enough to care one way or another.

“one night per year, you could commit any crime without facing
consequences”, that line stricken me alot asking myself what should I do with it or
what should we do instead? This is the question throughout the film entitled “The
Purge”. After watching, I just found out and realized that the concept of this
movie/film is an interesting, though admittedly shaken our ideas. The purge is a
federal plan that allows people to have the opportunity to commit murder and
hostiles for one to twelve hour period a year.

The intention process here was that the purge allows the upper and middle
class and above to go out on a deadly rampage and wipe out anyone that they think
unworthy. And as a Christian, I couldn’t help but view the film in the light of good
verses: “And according to the law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with
blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”-Hebrews 9:22; and He
Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ous only, but also for those of the
whole world.” – 1 John 2:2. However, it’s our own interpretation that determines who
is “good” and who is “bad”, in which we see play out.

I think what distubrs me most about this movie is the mere fact that not only
an entire night given over to do crime or any violencce, on innocent peoples, but this
purging could never last long. Our own wisdom has proven that violence produces
violence and never retrieving anything. The only true freedom man can ever know is
found when he dies to himself, and chooses to act in the right manners, even if it is
different and contrast to his feelings. When we begin doing the difficult task the
next ;right; thing all of the time, even when no one is watching, it builds upon itself,
sooner or later our feelings will be catch up. This is where faith comes in. We
believe, though we may not feels like believing. There is the beauty of the
confussions of our humaness that we don’t have like by feelings.

Right now, for me, it’s all about our ‘choices’. Sometimes I still fail to make
right choices, like for example: I take this course because me and my ex-boyfriend
planned it before but i never regretted it. Yet, i always know that forgiveness and
grace right there where I fall. I know. I believe it even when I don’t feel it. And not
being enslaved to my feelings is the true freedom indeed.
To be honest, I’m pretty unbiased towards “ The Purge”. I am really interested
in how evil we humans can be. And take note, among all the goodness acts,
goodness choices can also shine, and they will be shine just like diamond.
