appropriate seated behavior on carpet
 Expected behavior: Student stands, walks to the instrument area,
picks up two rhythm sticks and holds both with two hands, and
walks all the way around the carpet back to their spot on the carpet
with rhythm sticks in rest position
 S. picks up two rhythm sticks and walks all the way around the room as
per protocol back to their space on the carpet, sits with pretzel legs, and
places rhythm sticks in front of them on the carpet as T. reviews rest
position once they come back to their seat

backbeat/instrumental music in various parts of the body with rhythm
sticks in rest position

Assessment:
- Did the students repeat varied quarter and eighth note sets of rhythms on rhythm sticks
without background music to keep steady beat?
o Teacher plays rhythms with entire class response and listens for discrepancies in
rhythmic accuracy
o Teacher watches for correct playing position
- Did the students perform varied quarter and eighth note rhythms with accompaniment
recording in small groups?
o Teacher asks each row to repeat four beat patterns both notated and improvised by
teacher and listens and watches for rhythmic accuracy and participation by all
students
- Did the students appropriately respond and replicate teacher model of macro and micro
movement to recorded music in seated position in self space?
o Teacher watches for expected student behavior according to classroom rules and
expectations for the activity, and for those who follow instructions in putting
instruments back in place and moving in activity
