REVERSE LOGISTICS

PROGRAM STUDI MANAJEMEN LOGISTIK

2020
OPEN LOOP SC VS CLOSED LOOP SC

Open Loop Supply Chain:

Aliran reverse dikelola oleh pihak lain yang bukan pelaku forward
logistics sehingga barang return setelah di-recovery dijual ke
secondary market.

Closed Loop Supply Chain:

Aliran reverse dikelola oleh pelaku forward logistics yang ada dalam
satu sistem tersebut sehingga barang return akan kembali ke original
producers.
OPEN LOOP SC VS CLOSED LOOP SC
Centralised Efficient ( Cost Effective) Return
System:
Sistem ini mengutamakan meminimalkan biaya
proses reverse secara keseluruhan dibandingan
kecepatan pemrosesan produk return sehingga
proses inspeksi, sortasi dan disposisi terpusat
Closed Loop dalam suatu central facility.
Supply Chain
Berdasarkan
Time Value

Untuk Produk dengan low time value depreciation.

Contoh: peralatan mesin
• Every returned product is sent to a central location for testing and evaluation to determined its
condition.

• No attempt is made to judge the condition or quality of the product at the retailer or reseller

• Once the condition of the product has been determined, it is channeled to the appropriate area
(or facility) for disposition
Decentralised Responsive ( Time Effective)
Return System:
Sistem ini mengutamakan kecepatan
pengelolaan produk return untuk menghindari
keusangan produk dibandingkan biaya
pemrosesan produk secara keseluruhan
sehingga inspeksi, sortasi, dan disposisi dikelola
Closed Loop langsung oleh retailer atau reseller.
Supply Chain
Berdasarkan
Time Value

Untuk Produk dengan high time value depreciation.

Contoh: laptop dan high technology product lainnya
• Product is initially evaluated at multiple locations, when possible at the point of return from the

customer.

• Decentralizing the return process can reduce time delay in two ways:

 it reduces the time delays for disposition of new and scrap products

 speed up the processing of the remaining product - the units that need further testing and repair
LOW TIME VALUE VS HIGH TIME VALUE

Low Time Value

High Time Value

Closed Loop Supply Chain Desicion
Efficient Responsive

• To deliver product at low cost • for speed of response

• Suitable for products with Low MVT • Suitable for products with High MVT

• Centralized CLSC Model

• Decentralized CLSC Model

• Best for functional product

• Best for innovative product
Publishing Industry

Highest rate of unsold copies (28% on average)

Growth of large chain stores: More square

footage requires more books

To secure a prominent display in superstores,

publishers must supply large quantities of books

Superstores sell less than 70% of books they

order

Shorter shelf life

Computer / Electronic Industry

 Shorter life cycles

 Approximately 325 million PC’s became obsolete in
the US between 1985 and 2005
 Opportunities to reuse and create value out of a
nearly omnipresent asset
 How to recover and reuse materials contained within
E-waste?
 Lead, copper, aluminum gold, plastics and glass
 E-waste includes computers, televisions, cell
phones, audio equipment and batteries
 Remanufacturing of toner cartridges
Automotive Industry
Three primary areas:
• Components in working order sold as is
• Other components, such as engines,
alternators, starters, and transmissions are
refurbished before they can be sold
• Materials are reclaimed through crushing or
shredding
Automotive recyclers handle more than 37% of the
nation’s ferrous scrap
Remanufactured auto parts market is estimated at
$34 billion, annually
Retail Industry
Profit margins are so slim that good
return management is critical
Returns reduce the profitability of
retailers marginally more than
manufacturers
• Returns reduce the profitability of
retailers by 4.3%
• The average amount that returns
reduce profitability among
manufacturers is 3.80%
