Noun: Word that names, a person, a place, a thing, an idea and is divided i kinds of nouns (Common
Nouns, Proper Nouns, Singular & Plural Nouns, Singular & Plural Possessive, Countable &
Uncountable Nouns.
Examples: Daniela, Bogotá, Mary (Proper Nouns), country, evening, boy (Common Nouns).

Pronoun: The pronoun is a word used in place of one or more nouns. It may stand for a person, place,
thing, or idea. Pronouns can be divided into numerous categories including: Personal Pronouns,
Indefinite Pronouns, Demostrative Pronouns, Reflexive Pronouns, Possessive Pronouns, Interrogative
Pronouns.
Examples:I, We, They (Personal Pronouns), Anyone, Somebody, Nobody (Indefinite Pronouns).

Verb: A word that expresses action or otherwise helps to make a statement.


Verbs are the action words in a sentence that describe what the subject is doing.
Kinds of Verbs: Action Verbs, Transitive & Intransitive Verbs, Auxiliary Verbs, Modal Verbs, Irregular
Verbs,
Examples:Run, Dance, Jump (Action Verbs) Do, Can, May (Auxiliary Verbs).

Adjective: Modifies or describes a noun or pronoun.


Examples: a, an,and the (Articles) My, His, Our (Possessive Adjectives)
Adverb: Modifies or describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.
Kinds of Adverbs: Adverbs of Manner, Adverbs of place, Adverbs of Frequency
Examples: Slowly, Usually, Always.

Preposition: A preposition introduces a noun or pronoun or a phrase or clause functioning in the


sentence as a noun. The word or word group that the preposition introduces is its object.
Kinds of Prepositions: Prepositions of time, Prepositions of place.
Examples: in, on, at, under,above,below.

Conjunction: is a word that joins words or groups of words.


Examples:and, as, because, or, so, but.

Interjection: is an exclamatory word that expresses emotion


Examples:Wow! Goodness!

2. Write a sentence for each of the following parts of speech, underlying the appropriate part of
speech: /8
Noun: My dog, Oreo, jumped in the air and caught the ball!

Pronoun: Jack and David are friends.They play basketball together.

Verb: I know the answer.

Adjective: Since it’s a hot day, Lisa is wearing a sleeveless.

Adverb: She passed the exam easily.

Preposition: I was born in 1995.

Conjunction: I have two goldfish and a cat.

Interjection:Wow! She looks wonderful!
