1.

List any volunteer, extracurricular activities, or work experience in which you are or have
been involved in the past two years
- Throughout my highschool years, I have volunteered for my community and involved
myself with various extracurricular activities. I have done basketball from freshman year
to sophomore year, developing skills of being a team player. I’ve also involved myself in
clubs such as Men Creating Change, Gear-Up, Fulfillment fund, and Red Cross. For
community service hours, I have completed my 100 hours by helping a local park. I
gained these hours by helping beautify the park, cleaning up, and providing my service
to help kids with the programs that were run by the park.

2. Why would you like to attend college? Discuss your career and personal goals. Are there any
particular circumstances, school experiences, or persons that influenced your preparation or
motivation to attend college (e.g., cultural/financial background, family, teachers, schools you
attended)? Please explain
- From my struggles with family, my brother being a premature baby and having seizures,
my two other siblings, and my parents not having the best relationship, these issues and
many more that I had gone through has motivated me to become more, to pursue my
true potential and become successful. I have always had a desire to learn more about
space, as this started when I was a little kid. My goal is to pursue my desire and make a
career from it, making this my major. I plan to get my degree and be able to have a high
paying job, I want to help support my family. The idea of possibly achieving this goal was
also influenced by many teachers of mine, and members of Gear-Up and Fulfillment
fund, who helped me with choosing majors and colleges to attend that were best for me.

3. Briefly discuss your academic background. Did you utilize any additional support at your high
school, such as tutoring? Do your grades in high school and/or college reflect your academic
ability or potential?
- Coming from middle school and now entering highschool, I did not have the best grades.
Due to lack of focus and issues that were in my life because of family, I was never able
to tap into my true potential and demonstrate through my grades that I was capable of
being a great student. Despite me not having the ideal grades, classes that I have taken
has shown that I have challenged myself and tried to be competitive amongst others. I
have taken multiple AP classes, in junior year and senior year, and having 5 years of
math, exceeding the A-G requirements. I have never received a D or lower in any
highschool year, maintaining passing grades for all my classes and keeping a 3.0 GPA.

4. Briefly describe your family’s economic background. Include information about your financial
challenges.
- My family has never been able to financially support my family themselves, without the
help of programs, and without the help of my grandparents raising us and becoming my
second pair of parents to me and my three younger siblings. Throughout my life, my
parents had struggled to maintain well paying jobs and being able to pay for rent and
support my family. This struggle had begun to become worse as my siblings were born,
making them have more children to raise and support them. My second youngest sibling
named Matthew, he was a premature baby and needed additional care to be healthy. My
parents needed to stay in the hospital for weeks, my mom was still recovering from the
birth and my brother wasn’t able to leave the hospital. This was a problem because my
dad wasn’t able to support us all himself. He also had issues himself, as he struggled
mentally knowing my brother was premature, he was scared that his son wasn’t going to
be able to become healthy and have lifelong issues with his body.

5. Please tell us more about yourself. Is there any additional information you would like EOP to
consider in determining your admission to the program?
- What sets me apart from other candidates is my experiences throughout my life that has
made me develop into the person I am today. From my struggles with family, my brother
being a premature baby and having seizures, and to my parents not having the best
relationship. These issues and many more that I had gone through motivated me to
become more, to pursue my true potential and become successful. My greatest skills are
flexibility, the ability to adapt to any new challenges or situations, acting as a team
player, and my self confidence. As I continue to grow and learn more, my development
of these skills are ceaseless. I will not waste any opportunity given to me, taking full
advantage of all my resources and pursuing a degree.
