PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

I believe education should be an inclusive, engaging, and positive experience for every student,
therefore, I intend to create a safe, respecting, and differentiated learning environment that will allow
all students to flourish within their school community. As there are various types of learners, it is
essential to provide these students with equal opportunity in order to demonstrate their learning,
enhance their overall success, and to be actively involved in their school environment. This type of
inclusive community will facilitate students’ pursuits in knowledge as they develop physical skills,
communication skills, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking skills – enabling them to be life-long
learners.

I believe in the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and the positive effects it creates for students
both inside and outside classroom contexts. I wish to incorporate various activities within my teaching
practice that promote physical health, mental health, nutrition, growth mindsets, wellness, and the
reduction of sedentary behaviour as these elements have a strong correlation in students’ ability to
concentrate, stay motivated, and be active/engaged learners.  I intend to foster positive relationships
with my students by encouraging them to develop and explore their passions, skills sets, and
knowledge, as well as supporting them in their journey of adopting a healthy and active lifestyle.

5 TEACHING STYLES
The following are the teaching
styles I will be utilizing
throughout the semester.
Students will be able to learn
from a variety of teaching styles
that will best suite their
individual needs and increase
their motivation through
engaging lessons.

"Inclusion is about intentionally planning for the success of

all students."

1. Direct Teaching: This is a teacher centered approach where I will

introduce new skills/activities through various models, demonstrations, and
instructions. This style provides students with the opportunity to practice
skills while receiving effective feedback. I will build on students’ prior
knowledge/skills and foster their growth through continuous engagement and
feedback – fitting into my personal philosophy of encouraging students to
develop skills and knowledge for leading an active and healthy lifestyle.

2. Personalized System of Instruction (PSI): This is a student-centered approach where students

will progress through modules at their own pace as they develop independent
learning strategies (i.e., stations). This model corresponds to my personal
philosophy as it focuses on creating a meaningful and positive learning
environment by differentiating and accommodating skills/tasks to support
student learning and success. The PSI model transcends outside of a school
context by providing students with the skills to be independent, motivated, and
engaged learners in their journey of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
