Effects to be conferred by the Lords of Various Houses
during their Major Periods

If the lord of the major period is enjoying stay in own house, exaltation or
standing on greater number of benefic Vargas, the major period effects will be
FULL and GOOD.

Major period effects of lords of the 12 houses will be as follows :-

Lord of Ascendant - Heavy financial income from various sources

Lord of 2nd - Loss of life or Duritha
Lord of 3rd - Generally malefic effects as the major period progresses
Lord of 4th - Gain of house
Lord of 5th - Happiness due to academic gains & achievements
Lord of 6th - Fear from enemies & various sources; diseases
Lord of 7th - Sorrow
Lord of 8th - Fear of death or death in family
Lord of 9th - Religious leanings and charities
Lord of 10th - Acquaintances in higher circles and professional gains
Lord of 11th - Gains of various sorts
Lord of 12th - Diseases; financial losses and adversities

The above effects are based purely on the lordship. These effects will be full
(poorna) if the planet concerned is fairly strong with stay in own house, exaltation,
trines or enjoying greater number of benefic vargas (classifications). On the other
hand, if in enemy house, debilitation, stay in 6/8/12, the planet will bestow malefic
effects in full. If the lord of the major period is weak, malefic effects only have to be
expected.

In astrology, for human beings, generally benefic and malefic effects are given.
The methodology affecting these and the span of life of a native, have to be clearly
understood by an astrologer.

The major periods of lords of 5 and 9 are the most auspicious of all major periods,
and there will be great prosperity, acquisition of property, professional elevation,
birth of son etc. depending upon the strength of lord of 5 or 9 and the benefic
vargas attained. Similarly, the major periods of lords of 4 and 10 confer highly
benefic results.

Theh major period of the planet in conjunction with lord of 5 is also benefic, that
is to say, property and prosperity will result. Likewise, the major period of the
planet in conjunction with lord of 9th will confer greater beneficial effects than a
conjunction with lord of 5.

The major period of lord of 5 as also that of Ascendant confer administrative

powers on the native. In major period of lord of 5, who is in receipt of a malefic
aspect, Raja Yoga will be enjoyed whilst benefic aspect will confer financial status
and prosperity.

The native will enjoy professional elevation, financial prosperity and happiness
during major periods of lords of 9 and 5. Still greater beneficial effects will be
conferred in the major period of lord of 5 in conjunction with or aspect of lord of
10th.

The major periods of (i) lord of 10 standing in 5 (ii) lord of 10 standing in

conjunction with lord of 5 (iii) lord of 9 in conjunction with lord 4, confer beneficial
effects.

The native will enjoy respect, finance and happiness in major period of lord of 10
(irrespective of whether the planet is standing in benefic or malefic sign) and in
major period of lord of 10 in conjunction with lord of 4th.

The major periods of lords of 6 and 7 standing in 10 or in conjunction with

lord of 10 confer benefic effects.

Even if lord of 2nd or 7th (or both) stand in 4th or in conjunction with lord of 4th,
confer benefic effects during their respective major periods.

In major periods of lords of 6, 8 or 12 (if standing in conjunction with lord of 5),

there will be benefic effects (by reason of the conjunction) in some measure.

Benefic effects are to be expected in major period of lord of 4th in 10 and vice-
versa.

In major periods of lords of 4, 5, 10 (if all the 3 planets are standing together in
conjunction in one sign and in any one bhava - house) and in major periods of any
other planet standing in conjunction with them, Raja Yoga including administrative
powers will be enjoyed by the native.
Beneficial effects will be enjoyed in major period of lord of 5 standing in
4th;
Administrative powers will be exercised by the native in major period of
lord of 10 standing in 4th;
Administrative powers will be exercised by the native in major periods
of planets (in conjunction/aspect of lord of 5) standing in 4th or lord of
10th standing in 4th;
Properties and prosperity will be enjoyed in major period of lord of
standing in 10;
Raja Yoga will be enjoyed in major period of lord of 9 in 10th;
Limitless financial prosperity will be enjoyed in major period of planet
connected with lord of 9 in exaltation.

In major period of lord of a sign standing in or aspecting the 2nd from its own
sign, there will be high financial prosperity. Financial losses if standing in or
aspecting 12th therefrom.

Example : In the EH, in major period of Jupiter (lord of Pisces which is the
Asdt), the native should enjoy financial prosperity for the reason that Jupiter
is in 2nd from his sign. If Jupiter had been in Aquarius (the 12th therefrom),
there would have been losses. Find out the house(s) owned by a planet (
whose major period is running/under consideration) and determine the
relative position of its lord with reference to the house under consideration.

Death In the major period of a planet, whose trines are occupied by lords of
8/12 (from Asdt), Sun, Moon or Saturn, there will be loss of son/daughter, father
and bitter grief.

In the major period of a planet, whose trine is occupied by Rahu/Ketu,

there will be loss of son/daughter, financial loss, transfer of profession or change of

residence and frequent fear.

If the 6th or 8th from the lord of major period is occupied by a debilitated planet, or
planet in enemy house or such weak malefics, there will be troubles from enemies,
diseases, nasty/public punishments from King/Government.

If the 4th from lord of major period is occupied by

weak malefic - Loss of land, property & cattle

Mars - Loss of house by fire risk, bitterness from mother, rebukes etc.
Saturn - Heart ache
Sun - Anger of King/Government and loss of property
Rahu - Fear from poison, thieves and other adversities.

If the 10th from lord of major period is occupied by Rahu, there will be a number
of journeys in connection with pilgrimages during the major period of the former.

If the 9th, 10th and 11th are occupied by benefics, education, finance, charities,
praiseworthy actions, reputation and courage will be enjoyed by the native during
major period of a planet whose 9, 10 and 11 are so occupied.

If the 5th, 6th or 7th from a planet are occupied by exalted benefics, marriage,
birth of children, favours and presents from highly placed persons, all of a high
order, will occur in that planet's major period.

If a sign (say X) is occupied by lords of Asdt, 4, 9, 10 or 11 therefrom, the native

will reap the benefits indicated by the planet in major period of X.

In major periods of dispositors of Jupiter, Venus and lord of 9th, there will be
matrimonial/auspicious functions, faith in God & Preceptor, performance of
religious rites.

If the 4th from the lord of a major period is occupied by :-

Exalted planet, a planet in own house or benefic - Gain of conveyance,

professional elevation, gain of quadrupeds, general increase of prosperity
Moon - Financial gains from various directions, enjoying high class dishes
daily etc.
Full Moon - Effortless gains, lump sum gains like hidden treasures, gain of
precious stones.
Venus - Musical accomplishments and acquisition of musical instruments &
conveyance.
Jupiter - Gain of gold, kingly paraphernalia etc.

As a general rule, horoscopes where either the lord of Asdt or lord of 9th or 10th
is standing in exaltation, own house or on high benefic/swa-varga, stand to gain in
a much greater measure than other horoscopes, including high professional
elevation.

Note : Apparently, the Maharshi considers that horoscopes where the lord of
Asdt/9th/10th is exalted/occupying own house or enjoying high subha varga are on a
higher class than others not having such planetary disposition. Therefore, it seems
implied that good yoga or maha dasa will yield 100% beneficial results
in the former case and that in other cases, there will be much less beneficial effects.

According to Maharshi Parashara, each major period can be brought under

one of the 18 kinds noted below and that their beneficial effects will be pro-rata :-

1. Deep Exaltation
2. Exaltation
3. Moola-trikona
4. Own House
5. On high number of swa-vargas
6. Quadrant/trine
7. Intimate friend's sign
8. Temporary friend's sign
9. Neutral's House
10. Enemy House
11. Bitter Enemy House
12. On high number of enemy vargas
13. Debilitation
14. On high number of debilitated vargas
15. Extreme Debilitation
16. Defeated in Planetary Battle
17. Combustion
18. Retrogression

A planet enjoying deep exaltation and at the same time enjoying full rasmi-bala
will confer full benefic results, namely gain of kingdom or full political and
professional success and Goddess Lakshmi will be smiling on the native.

In the major period of a planet in exaltation or equal in status in other respects

(namely, rasmi-bala and high number of own and benefic vargas etc.) there will be
monetary income from several sources; ye there will be sorrow and minor troubles
here and there. Whilst in the major period of a planet in extreme debilitation or

otherwise equally weak, the dasa is called RIKTHA and there will be diseases,
unexpected obstacles and adversities and even death.

All major periods are divided into classifications called AVAROHINI and
AROHINI. A planet that is on its journey from Deep Exaltation to its extreme
debilitation point is called AVAROHINI; a planet on its journey from extreme
debilitation to deep exaltation is called AROHINI. Planets in AVAROHINI confer
mediocre and inauspicious results whilst those in AROHINI confer auspicious
results. Even if a planet is AVAROHINI, if occupying exaltation, moolatrikona, own
house or friendly house, such a major period should be classified as AVAROHINI,
but there will be financial gains and auspicious results of a moderate order. A
planet in AROHINI, if in enemy house, enemy classification and the like, the major
period has to be classified as ADHAMA (poor) and the results will fear, quarrels,
diseases, sorrow and grief.
