OUR CLASS AT A GLANCE

Our diverse classroom will be an encouraging place for all the students to learn and interact with one
another in a respectful way. The students will know that their main priority is to learn to succeed.

Procedure 1:

Walking in the classroom


line up outside the room (according to teacher's list)
wait for teacher to open the door
quietly walk in single file
put backpacks on hooks/back of chairs

Procedure 2:

Turning in homework
make sure your name/date is on it
before walking in the classroom, take out homework and have in hands
as you walk in, neatly place homework in "homework folder" by the door
your homework should be turned in before you sit in your seat

Procedure 3:

Attendance
students sit in their assigned seating
teacher checks the empty seats, marks absent

Procedure 4:

Turning in classwork.
if grouped in centers, one student will collect from group members
that one student will pass the group's work and pass to the other group.
That group will pass to the other group
one student from the last group will place work in "classwork file"

Procedure 5:

Going to the restroom


put up 1 finger in the air
wait for teacher's response

Procedure 6:

Washing hands
put up 1 finger up (same as going to the restroom)
quietly walk up and wash up your hands
for younger students, use a penny size dot of soap
wash hands and use one paper towel to dry hands
place paper towel in the trashcan
quietly walk back to your desk
if sink in room, 3 or less students per sink at a time

Procedure 7:

Getting a drink of water


put up 2 fingers in the air
wait for teacher's response

Procedure 8:

Sharpen pencils
quietly get up, walk to area in the room with unsharp/sharp pencils
place your dull pencil in "pencils need sharpening" pile
pick a sharp pencil from "sharp pencils" pile
quietly walk back to desk, continue on-task behavior

Procedure 9:

"I need a _________."


quietly get up and walk to "student materials center"
look at labels on the drawers, find the label marked what you are looking for
get the item you need
quietly walk back to your desk
****what you "need" must be something you cannot do without

Procedure 10:

Throwing trash/recycle
identify your type of trash, recycle or trash
put it aside, until a transitional part of lesson (moving from student to teacher, vice versa)
quietly, walk to closest recycle/trash bin.
walk back, continue to on-task behavior

Procedure 11:
Getting a tissue
no hand signs needed, might need to cover mouth, nose with hands
quickly/quietly walk to get a tissue

Procedure 12:

"I've finished early, now what?"


quietly put aside your finished work
quietly walk to center for enrichment box
quietly find the folder for the subject you just finished
quietly look through folder, find activity that interests you
take your activity to your desk/computer/reading corner and work
if you finish the assignment, turn in to "center for enrichment complete file"
****if you see a student with a red sign on their desk, walk to them and help them

Procedure 13:

"I'm having a hard-time, and I need help."


Each student will have a three page little book that sits on the desk like a tent
if you are having a a hard time and need help, flip to the red page that says "I need help, and I
can't keep working."
Quietly wait for teacher or student to come to you.
If you feel the computer/dictionary/another resource can help you, then walk to that resource
quietly and use it.

Procedure 14:

Turning in lost items


Fill out name and item information on lost item slip
Give item to teacher

Procedure 15:

Locating lost items


Go to teacher during free-time (completing an assignment, lunch, recess, before-after school)
If item not found, then fill out lost item slip, give to teacher to post on class communication
bulletin
If found, teacher will contact student

Procedure 16:

Organizing desk/materials
supplies such as pencils,crayons, erasers, paperclips, flash drives should be in box
loose papers should be in folder which is separated inside by subjects
Organize desk during free-time

Procedure 17:

Tracking speaker
when teacher is speaking, track teacher with eyes and bodies

when student is speaking, track student with eyes and bodies

Procedure 18:

Signal for attention, clean up time


teacher makes three small rings of bell
students stop what they do and clap hands twice and stomp their hands on desk

Procedure 19:

Moving desks for group work


After teacher's direction, get up from desk
move to the side of the desk
with two hands , one in the front and one in the back, move desk so the desks are facing each
other
move chair back to desk and sit down
continue on-task behavior

Procedure 20:

How to watch videos


quietly sit in assigned seats
paper and pen out to write any questions or comments for the end
while video is rolling, room is absolutely quiet

Procedure 21:

How to use the computers


wash hands before going to the computers
sit down in chair so that there is at least a foot of space between body and screen
make sure there are headphones on and working
Each student will have a folder in computer to save work/pages to
teach students how to save docs

Procedure 22:

End of the day, clean up time


Clean off your desk, put books/box away
Leave out your morning notebook
Pick up any trash within three of you
push your chair in
put on your back pack
when asked to line up, get your mail, and line up in your place by the door
wait quietly in line to be dismissed

"I'm hurt--physically."
Raise your hand, tell teacher what the issue is
If needed, quietly pack up your thinks, and go to nurse’s office (with note)

Procedure 24:

Fire drill
Stop and look at the teacher
Fire chief grabs fire drill packet and lines up
quietly group one lines up, then group two, then group three...
second person in line holds the door open for everyone
third person holds the outside door open for the rest of the class, becomes the last person in
line
wait patiently for teacher's directions

Procedure 25:

Using the classroom library


During free-time, walk quietly so classroom library
Look for a book to check out
After finding the book, write your name and the books name on the sign-out sheet
take good care of the book
When finished, return book to correct location
Check name off of list

UNDERSTANDING AND CORRECTING BEHAVIOR

Level 1: Give student "the look."

Level 2: Individually speak to student regarding off-task behavior (understand student, provide
strategies to help student stay on-task)

Level 3: If student continues off-task behavior, assign activity that teaches student on why what
they are doing is not good, and how to fix it, some kind or video/reading/writing activity,
student and teacher sign a contract regarding that specific behavior

Level 4: If behavior continues, teacher advises student that there will be a call home

Level 5: Call home, see what's up

CRISIS PLAN

1: Send student to office with a crisis behavior card

2: Send other students to another teacher's class

3: If possible, help students re-gain self-control

4: Get students back on on-task behavior

5: Notify parents of incident.
