PATIENT GUIDELINES FOLLOWING RHINOPLASTY
Please read and familiarize yourself with these instructions after surgery. If you follow them
carefully, you will aid in attaining the best possible result from your operation.
 Wipe your face with tissue paper when needed. Do not pick or rub your nose. You
may clean the suture sites with cotton buds soaked in 10% vol. Hydrogen peroxide 2-
3x a day, If necessary.
 Apply ice-cold compress for 15 minutes every 3 to 4 hours for the first 24 hours after
surgery. Warm compress may be applied for 15 minutes every 3 to 4 hours
thereafter.
 Avoid physical activities for the first week. Try to rest more than usual and avoid
athletic activities during this time.
 Brush your teeth gently with a soft toothbrush. Avoid manipulation of your upper lip
to keep your nose at rest.
 You may wash your face gently with soap and water.
 Avoid smiling, griming, laughing excess facial movement for at least one week.
 Do not be concerned if your nose, eyes and upper lip show some swelling and
discoloration after surgery. This usually clears up in a week. Expect maximum
swelling on the 3rd to the 4th day post op.
 Take medication as prescribed by your doctor.
 Do not wear glasses or sun glasses that rest on the bridge of the nose for atleast one
month.
 Avoid swimming for about 1-3 months.
 Removal of cast will be on_________________________
