DEPARTMENT  OF  FINE  ART
Statement  on  COVID  19  and  Virtual  Learning

Dear Students,

We recognize that with the constantly changing COVID-19 situation in Pakistan this is a time
of great uncertainty for everyone. For this reason we have decided to take all our courses
online starting Monday, 23rd March 2020. Please consider that June and July cannot be
regarded an option since the virus might still be in affect and the government may still be
implementing cautionary measures.

We aim to provide students with all required academic content and guidance to make the
completion of the Spring Semester successful and possible. It is important to consider that
this difficult time is unprecedented and beyond anyone’s control. This is why it is important
for all students and faculty to work together and creatively to ensure a smooth transition and
completion of courses without compromising the quality of education. This is the time to
allow yourself to think, be imaginative and figure new ideas and solutions in your research
and work.

Please note the following for your information regarding online courses:

- New timeline and dates have been formulated keeping in mind the current situation, material
and space limits.

- The new dates mentioned are inclusive of online/digital submissions and final juries. Only
under special circumstances will we need to go a week into June.

- We will follow the course allocations of our original timetable. This means that course
timing and days as were initially assigned will still remain the same. – For example, studio
courses will take place between 11:30 – 4:30.

- Drawing courses will take place on their existing days i.e. Mondays - 3rd Semester, Fridays
- 5th Semester and Thursdays - 7th Semester.

- Days and timings for Computer Studies and Art & Society will also remain the same as per
the existing timetable.

- Projects are being altered to suit the need for online teaching and keeping in mind the
current situation.

- All courses, individual discussions and class crits will take place via Google Meet.
Instructions on how to join classes on Google Meet will be sent to all students and faculty via
email.

- All submissions will be digital and online.

- New assessment criteria are being formulated for each course with emphasis on student
creativity, new research approaches and online discussions.
- Students with limited technical and Internet support are encouraged to seek help from fellow
students and friends. However, a flexible approach will be adopted throughout in order to
accommodate all student concerns.

- Your faculty in charge will be getting in touch with you with details regarding assignment
briefs, assessment criteria, attendance policy and online meetings.

- Please note that in order to accommodate the interruption of current courses and the
remaining semester, studio dates have been revised to suit all students and faculty at best!
