ABSTRACT
The avian clamidiose whose agent is the Chlamydophila psittaci is commonly found
in free-living birds, however, the transmission from these sources is rare. The parrots
in the family Psittacidae comprising approximately 340 species-including macaws,
parrots and parakeets, are among the main sources of human contamination. Such
birds are very popular due to the intelligence and easy interaction with the man, who
has provided the increase in the number of animals in captivity, whether for company
purposes or preservation. The intimate contact of these birds with creators and
professionals working in the field as zookeepers and veterinarians are responsible for
the formation of the risk group of clamidiose as zoonosis.
