Socialize to Support! Help Raise Funding and Awareness Seattle Children’s Hospital, Lifelong Aids
Alliance, and Delta Society. Education and Research

Overview:

Through Operation Smile Seattle event prepared by the Art Institute of Seattle student John
Go, will raise money for charities listed above. The mission of these non profits and also my goal for
this project is to help lead the world in advancing human health and well being through positive
interactions with animals. We help people throughout the world become healthier and happier by
incorporating therapy, service and companion animals into their lives.

As a student in the Fashion Marketing and Management Bachelor program at the Art
Institute of Seattle, I was currently enrolled in the Business Entrepreneurship class that focuses its
entire quarter on hosting an event to benefit a non-profit. Due to my strong dedication to not only
my education but also my community, I have decided that working with Delta Society in Bellevue,
Seattle Children’s Hospital, and Lifelong would be a rewarding experience not only for myself but
also for my community. With numerous classes focused on event planning and promotion, I have
experience in hosting events and will put forth a strong effort to create the largest benefit to both
Delta Society, Lifelong, Children’s Hospital and the community as possible.

Goals and Objectives:

1. Create awareness pets and people within the local community.

2. Raise over $500.00
3. Make T-Shirts to sell to local businesses as well as at the event
4. Promote our event through various medias to ensure a large outturn and positive outcome.
5. Working with local businesses to build connection

Budget:

Since all proceeds will be going to the charity’s listed above, I wish to minimize any expenses
associated with hosting an event by seeking donations of products, people’s time, and the event
space. The community is a strong supporter of this foundation and therefore, I feel that I will be
able to raise a substantial amount of money with the support of local businesses and neighborhood
occupants.
Project Proposal

The Art Institute of Seattle October 01, 2010

Operation Smile Seattle is a program established by John David Go. I plan on help raising money for
Delta Society The Human-Animal Health Connection. Delta Society is a non-profit organization that
helps people live healthier and happier lives by incorporating therapy, service and companion animals
into their lives. Delta Society receives no government funding and relies on individuals, foundations
and corporations for financial support.

Sometime it takes an animal to do the job. At the heart of all Delta Society programs is a research
foundation, which demonstrates that when animals are around, people’s blood pressure goes down,
stress and anxiety levels are reduced, people feel less lonely and less depressed, and they tend to be
more social, and community oriented. Delta Society's Pet Partners program trains and screens
volunteers with their pets so they can visit patients/clients in hospitals, nursing homes, hospice and
physical therapy centers, schools, libraries and many other facilities. Over 10,000 handler/animal
teams bring joy, comfort and compassion to those in need. These dedicated volunteers and their
pets have been credited for helping people forget about their pain, providing distractions so nurses
can perform medical procedures on pediatric patients, inspiring patients recovering from strokes to
perform more physical therapy exercises than when they work with just their human
therapists, and even bringing people out of comas! Delta Society provides resources for healthcare,
educational and other professionals so they can learn how to safely and effectively incorporate
therapy animals into their practices. We often hear from professionals how once they've
implemented the tools provided; they are able to improve their patients/clients experience and are
better able to help their patients/clients.

Operation Smile Seattle is a program established by John David Go. I plan on help raising money for
Lifelong Aids Alliance on Capital Hill. Lifelong AIDS Alliance is committed to preventing the spread
of HIV, and to providing practical support services and advocating for those whose lives are affected
by HIV and AIDS.

A world without HIV or AIDS, where every person living with illness is treated with dignity and
respect. Lifelong AIDS Alliance was formed in 2001 through the merger of Chicken Soup Brigade
and Northwest AIDS Foundation. We’ve come a long way since our beginnings in 1983, when a
soup can was passed around Volunteer Park and collected the first $42 to help people living with
HIV/AIDS in our community. Today, we are staffers, volunteers, donors and community members
from many different backgrounds. We are united in our determination to make sure that we never
forget that HIV/AIDS still exists. We will be here until there is a cure.
Lifelong does whatever it takes to improve the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS. We provide
health insurance so that people can get the care they need. We cook and deliver healthy meals. We
ensure that people have a safe place to live. And our caring case managers help people every step of
the way

Operation Smile Seattle is a program established by John David Go. I plan on help raising money for
the Seattle Children’s Hospital in Bellevue. Seattle Children’s Hospital in Bellevue is an extension of
Children’s Hospital. Working with kids who have childhood disease is something that hits very close
to home. I am very excited about this project because I will be able to help a very good cause that is
very close to my heart.

“Step inside Seattle Children’s and enter a unique world. We are a compassionate community where
skilled physician-researchers, nurses and staff partner with patients and families to help every child
live their best life.
Amid the child-friendly, life-size giraffes and elephants that greet you at the door, there is a buzz —
an energy and perseverance that define our community. We are united by a compelling mission: to
prevent, treat and eliminate pediatric disease”. Children’s Hospital

I plan on having the event at the Woodland Park Zoo. I have been researching and talking to the
event coordinator at the park and they might be able to give me the space for free since its for
Seattle’s Children Hospital. Utilizing volunteers from the school and co-works and friends will help
me achieve my vision by acquiring donations and selling the products. I also have been talking to the
Seattle Children’s Hospital to see if I can also have the event there just as a back up.

Demographics
United As One Demographics

Demographic segmentation consists of dividing the market into groups on variables such as age,
gender, family size, income, occupation, education, religion, race and nationality. Demographic
segmentation variables are amongst the most popular bases for segmenting customer groups. This is
partly because consumer’s wants are closely linked to variables such as income and age. Also, for
practical reasons, there is often much more data available to help with demographic segmentation
process. The list below shows the demographic segmentation of United As One t-shirt consumers:
