Geographic Formations with Gustar

Subject/Course/Grade: Spanish, pre-level 1, 7th grade Unit: Geographic formations

Lesson Topic: Geographic formations vocabulary, Gustar Date: 11/21/19

Teacher/School: Señorita Mucha, Forsythe Middle School Lesson Duration: 20-30 min

Lesson Objectives:
Students will be able to: use geographic formation vocabulary words, identify them in a video,
and use the verb gustar. They will be able to say if they like or do not like specific geographic
formations. They will also be able to say if other people like those formations or not using
gustar.

Rationale:
For this unit the students will be learning vocabulary words for geographic formations, gustar,
and ir. They are just starting this topic so we will focus on only one grammar point today. We
will start with gustar first so that the students can determine if they like specific geographic
formations or not.

Summary of Tasks/ Actions:
We will begin the morning with a quick warm-up. This warm-up will be a quick round of Ole.
After that we will transition into the presentation. The presentation reviews the verb gustar,
which they were introduced to yesterday. This presentation will also include vocabulary
review that they learned yesterday. The end of the presentation will have a short video from
Costa Rica. The students will be asked to find at least 4 vocabulary words (geographic
formations) in the video and write those words down on a scrap piece of paper. I will ask the
students what words they found. After that we will go over the two worksheets that they need
to work on. I will walk around the room while they are working to make sure that they are
doing the work. I will also walk around the room so that the students can ask me questions if
they need help.

Me gusta. Te gusta. Él, ella, usted le gusta. Nos gusta. Les gusta.
Buen trabajo. ¿Y cuándo usamos me gustan? When you like
something plural. ¡Sí exactamente!
Ahora vamos a hablar sobre las palabras del vocabulario. ¿Cuál es
la formación geográfica en la foto? El lago. Repeat this structure for
each slide. Engage with the students asking them if they like that
certain formation. ¿Nehith, te gusta el lago? Sí, me gusta el lago.
¿A ella le gustan las montañas? Sí a ella le gustan las montañas.
Perfectos estudiantes. Ahora, vamos a mirar un video corto de
Costa Rica. Cuando miran el video, escriban cuatro palabras de

Critical Questions:
Will this lesson take too long? I made the PowerPoint a little longer than I meant to. I didn’t
want to delete anything though because it had a lot of good content. Will they understand
gustar? How much of the vocabulary will they remember?
