I do not agree with how it was imposed but I favor the community quarantine imposed by our

President Rodrigo Duterte. He could have warned the Filipino citizens that if such matters
happened, a community quarantine will imposed. The government and the Filipino citizens
were unprepared and that was the main reason that have caused chaos in the capital. I agree
that community quarantine is one of the solutions to counter the spread of the corona virus
2019. If community quarantine was not imposed, the corona virus could have spread quickly all
over the Philippines knowing that a lot of Filipino citizens enters and leaves Metro Manila for
various concerns, and a lot of citizens lived within Metro Manila.

Transportation in Metro Manila was affected. Few hours after the announcement of President
Duterte, buses and PUJ’s are operational but they are forced to only allow a certain number of
commuters to ensure social distancing. Since the public transportation only allow certain
number of people to board, the citizens rushed and aggressively bumps into one another to get
the chance to a golden seat trip back to their homes. However, they are clueless if the person
they bumped into was actually infected of the corona virus. Leading to increase of number of
corona virus cases.

The community quarantine has shut down almost all businesses in Metro Manila and their
employees were at risk. It is unclear how people who depend on daily work will cope financially
given that most of the contracts they signed with their employer has a “no work, no pay”
policy.

Sudden announcement wipes out billions of pesos in Philippine stock market. Year to date, The
Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) is already down by almost 40%. Investors were panicked
and giving them the idea to sell their stocks at lower than the price they bought their shares.
Wilcon Depot, Inc. dropped its value per share to almost 30% after community quarantine was
imposed.

During times of crisis like this corona virus epidemic, people want assurance the government
leaders know or have outright plans how to handle such situations. This is an acid test for any
government in relation to healthcare and economic services. Given that Philippines is a disaster
prone country, Philippine government should already have a concrete specific plan how to
handle such scenarios. Though this is the first time that our country has experienced this kind of
pandemic with this kind of magnitude, still more precise and prepared plans should already be
available anytime. This way people will not get panicked.
