2. Flexible graphite shall be a minimum of 98% by weight pure carbon.

3. Fittings shall be as follows:

Class 6000 for HF-2.
Class 9000 for HF-20.

4. An alloy UNS N04400 weld intended to be deposited onto a carbon steel surface
requires a nickel butter layer for separation.

5. For seat rings in valves 1 1/2 inch and larger, the following options are permitted:

a. For threaded-in seat rings, the body seat ring area shall be machined to accept
an alloy UNS N04400 or nickel weld inlay. Once the weld inlay is completed,
the valve body area is then re-machined and threaded to accept the alloy UNS
N04400 seat rings.

b. Alloy UNS N04400 seat rings, when threaded into a carbon steel seat pocket,
are acceptable only if double seal welded with an alloy UNS N04400 weld.

c. Alloy UNS N04400 seat rings, when press-fit into the carbon steel seat
pocket, must be double seal welded. Where double seal welding is not
practical, an alloy UNS N04400 or nickel weld inlay shall be installed in the
valve body to accept the alloy UNS N04400 seat rings. A single seal weld
shall be installed on the pipe bore side (gate and check valves) or on the inlet
side (globe valves).

d. For an integral seat ring, an alloy UNS N04400 weld overlay shall be
deposited and machined to the final seat ring contour.

6. Full corrosion allowance 0.25 inch (6.0 mm) is not available for 1 inch and
smaller valves.

7. Minimum wall thickness for 1 1/2 inch and smaller pipe shall be as follows:
Class HF-2 – no less than Schedule 160 pipe
Class HF-20 – no less than Schedule XX-Strong

8. Each casting shall meet the hydrostatic test requirements of ASTM Standard
Specification A703.
