Support for S.

2843:
Violence Against Women Re-Authorization Act of 2019 (Sponsor: Dianne
Feinstein, Senator for California, Democrat)

What is this bill about?

The original bill was signed into Law in 1994, by President Bill Clinton. It is known as
VAWA. It is a bill that supports comprehensive, effective, cost-saving responses to
Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Dating Violence and Stalking. It provides states and
communities tools to help victims based on local and state-wide needs and priorities.
This bill recently expired in 2018 and it must be re-authorized to provide safety and
justice for ALL survivors.

~ I myself am a survivor of intimate partner violence. My experience with IPV occurred in my first
serious relationship of my adult life. I was 18 and he was 28. I experienced physical, mental,
psychological abuse and violence and financial control at the hands of my abuser. Even though I
survived my DV situation, I experienced severe effects from my DV situation, and the effects
sometime manifest even in my life today even after the lengthy period away from my abuser. For
this reason, I am passionate about supporting this bill and doing my part to combat DV towards
women, girls and other at risk/vulnerable populations.
