Additional Grammar Information:

Subject of a Sentence
The subject of a sentence is the person or thing doing the action or being
described.
Lee ate the pie.
(Lee is the subject of the sentence. Lee is doing the action.)
Lee is chubby.
(Lee is the subject of the sentence. Lee is being described.)
In these two sentences, the verbs are ate and is. Lee is the subject of these
verbs. That's what makes Lee the subject of the sentences.

Subject Complement
A subject complement is a word or phrase that follows a linking verb and
identifies or describes the subject.

In the examples below, the linking verbs are in bold and the subject complements
are shaded:
Ben is a policeman.
(The linking verb is is (i.e., the verb to be). The subject complement identifies the
subject Ben. It is a noun.)

He will be fine.
(The linking verb is will be (i.e., the verb to be). The subject complement
describes the subject He. It is an adjective.)

I am he.
(The linking verb is am (i.e., the verb to be). The subject complement identifies
the subject I. It is a pronoun.)
The direct object is the receiver of the action mentioned in the sentence.

John hit the ball. (Direct object: the ball)

Be careful to distinguish between a direct object and an object complement.

They named the boy Christopher.

In this sentence ‘boy’ is the direct object and ‘Christopher’ is the object
complement.

The object complement is a word that describes the object.

They elected him their mayor.

Object – him; object complement – mayor

The indirect object identifies the person/thing for whom/what the action of the
verb is performed.

The indirect object is usually a person or thing.

Study the examples given below.

My mother bought me a necklace. (Indirect object – me; direct object – necklace)

John told Peter a story. (Indirect object – Peter; direct object – story)

Note that the object pronouns me, him, us, them etc., are not always indirect
objects. Sometimes, they also serve as direct objects.

Help me! (Here the object pronoun ‘me’ is the direct object.)

Kill him! (Here again the object pronoun ‘him’ is the direct object.)
