4. a) State and prove Stefan Boltzman law. (10)
b) The sun emits maximum radiation at A = 0.52 urn. Assuming the sun to be
black body, calculate the surface temperature of the sun and the emissive
power (emissive ability) of the sun's surface at that temperature. Also determine
the maximum monochromatic emissive power of the sun's surface. (5)
c) What is a black body? How does it differ from a gray body? (5)
b) Derive two dimensional energy equation for thermal boundary layer on a flat
plate. Also obtain Pohlhausen solution for the energy equation. (15)
6. Air at atmospheric pressure and temperature 20°C flows past a flat plate with a
velocity of 4m/s. The plate is 30 ern wide, is heated uniformly throughout its
entire length and is maintained at a surface temperature of 60°C .Make calculations
for the following parameters at 40 ern distance from the leading edge :
Take the following thermo-physical properties of air at the mean film temperature
of 40°C: p = 1. l Skg/rn"; v = 17xlO-6 m2/s; c = 1007 J/kg-deg and
k = 0.0272W/m-deg. (20)
b) What is the difference between diffusion and convective mass transfer? (5)
