Fats are also called ‘fatty acids’ or ‘lipids.’ Fats in our body are made up of three
molecules joined together. This three-molecule structure is called a “triglyceride”.
There are three main types of fat in the foods you eat:
Unsaturated fats from plant foods.

saturated fats from animal foods and Trans fats from commercially prepared,
processed foods. Saturated fat and trans fat — have been identified as potentially
harmful to your health.

Most of the foods that contain these types of fats are solid at room temperature,
such as: butter, margarine, beef or pork fat.
You might find trans fat in: fried foods (French fries, doughnuts, deep-fried fast
foods) margarine (stick and tub) vegetable shortening baked goods (cookies,
cakes, ) processed snack foods

Eating too much saturated fat can increase blood cholesterol levels and low-
