In this article, Catherine Clifford gave us an overall insight into how one of the world’s

most intelligent people in the tech industry, Bill Gates, views the Artificial intelligence

technology will affect our life. Bill Gates views “the rise in artificial intelligence will mean

society will be able to do more with less.” And he gave an example of the AI

technology’s developments in agriculture: before everyone barely survives with limited

food and harsh weathers. However, after the recent technological achievements, we are

able to grow more food and feed more people than we used to. And he also points out

with the AI technology, the job market, and society doesn’t move as quickly as the

technological evolvement. So he continues on saying, “it will have to figure out how to

retrain workers and distribute benefits in a new economy.” In short, this article showed

us Bill Gates’ view regarding AI technology, how he thinks AI technology will help us in

the future and how we should prepare for it.

B.J. Copeland, the professor of Philosophy and Director of the Turing Archive for the

History of Computing in the University of Canterbury and the author of Artificial

Intelligence and others, explains specifically what is Artificial Intelligence. In the article,

he gives many examples. He firstly illustrates what is intelligence, so it is better to then

explain “AI”. Copeland’s analysis is that AI is the ability of a digital computer or

computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings

by learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and language-using. This article

answers our group’s question “What is AI?”, and it provides us help because we can

only think about if human beings should embrace or fear AI technology in the workplace

after we totally understand what is AI.

Grebert-Craig, Brooke who is an author of the NEW DAILY. From his article about AI, It

mentioned the disadvantages of AI “depend on how you measure it,” Dr. Song said. In

addition, “The technology is still immature and needs significant improvement. It is far

from a human level of intelligence”(Grebert-Craig). In fact, every tool was invented, it

has two parts for the disadvantages and advantages. So there are still exist some

problems with AI, but we could try to practice it. Because people need it eventually, the

world does need too.

Sunil Kumar is an India College administrator. He is the provost and senior vice

president for academic affairs at Johns Hopkins University. The article mentioned that

the advantages of AI applications are enormous and can revolutionize any field of

experts. Sunil organized some benefits of AI. First, AI could reduce human being’s

errors, like to do the prediction of weather will be more accurate. Second, help people to

do repetitive tasks, which would save time also reduce the labor cost. Thirdly, our daily

application, like App Siri. Thus, I believe AI has witnessed changes for people, also it

will bring great benefits to the world.

Narula, Gautam. “Everyday Examples of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.”

In this article, the author Gautam Narula gave us a detailed example list of current

implementations of AI technology. He divided the article into different categories, such

as Commuting, Email, Grading and Assessment, Banking/Personal Finance, etc. And

under each category, he added 2-3 examples of the current implementation. For

Commuting, there were “Google’s AI-Powered Predictions” and “Commercial Flights

Use an AI Autopilot”. And each example either already started affecting our life or is on

the path of improving the related industry. He stated that “Each example is

accompanied by a “glimpse into the future” that illustrates how AI will continue to

transform our daily lives in the near future.” Also, in the end, he mentions “We’ve only

scratched the surface of examples of AI and ML in day-to-day life.” Overall, this article

provided us many examples of AI implementations in real life and how it is helping us to

achieve better efficiency.

Ed Newton-Rex, product director of ByteDance and a creative AI speaker and writer,

provides a list of AI’s achievements to date. This article is a little bit different from other

articles, Newton-Rex lists almost everything that AI can do nowadays classified by

different fields. And he gives every achievement of AI a link, so the links lead to outside

articles that discuss each achievement specifically. His article which is very

comprehensive shows a totally of 59 applications of AI technology, like flying a drone

and detecting crop disease, under 14 different categories. The richness and objectivity

of this article are enough, but it lacks the author’s own perspectives and conclusion.

Anyway, it still helps our group to know what can AI do, especially in the field of work.
