Respected Professor Yu Zhu

I am Rupsha Bhattacharyya, a second year undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical

Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. I am writing to apply for an
Undergraduate Summer Research Position at Tsinghua University from May 2019 to July 2019.

The field of Mechanical Engineering has fascinated me since the beginning of my college life. My
interest in this domain eventually drove me to your webpage. Your work in this field motivated me
to delve deeper into the subject and encouraged me to write to you.

Along with having a strong background in mathematics and physics, I have done courses on
Introduction to Computational Mechanics,Thermodynamics, Materials Science, Fluids, Kinetics and
Dynamics of Machines, Applied Mechanics and Solid Mechanics among others and will be
completing Energy System and Technologies, Manufacturing Processes and Mechanical Engineering
Drawing by May. The rest, I would like to learn working as a part of your lab. I am willing to self learn
any other topic that might form a pre-requisite to the project.

I already have worked in a research project under the guidance of Prof. Kedar Khare, IIT Delhi in the
summers of 2018 and have been awarded Design and Innovation Summer Award by IIT Delhi for this.
The project was aimed at creating a wide field of view microscope using an optical device called
mirascope, and thus am well well versed with softwares like MATLAB, uEye, Oslo. I am also working
on a project of Super coiling of elastic beams. Having had an experience in research, I assure you
that I am highly interested to pursue it further because constant logical thinking and experimenting
about a concept or theory and eventually trying to reach a logical conclusion gives me immense
satisfaction.

My CGPA is 9.05/10 after 2 semesters and I have consistently done well in academics, getting 99.9
percentile in JEE. Also, I have performed really well in all my lab courses that I have undertaken.

and take me under your mentorship if you find my skill suitable for the task. I remain at your
disposal for any further information you may require or an eventual interview. I will be gratified if
