learners bring to school their early experience growing vocabulary and knowledge base in their home
language and culture .These early experiences and fundamental in setting a foundation for
and academic development. Such development is a function of the children's interaction with all the
structures of the environment in which they live. Incorporation of pupils home language and culture
into the curriculum can be seen as inclusive strategy dimension into the ownership. It is felt that the
incorporation of a learning strategy dimension into the curriculum could help to maintain or enhance
motivation and might also lead to greater appreciation on the part of the learners of the processes
underfying their own learning (Nunan,2009)

McEachem (2010) notes that many studies have shown that integrating the mother tongue in classroom
instruction can help a child understanding better, encourage participation, enhance cultural awareness,
and raise confidence resulting in improved learning including the learning of English

According to domingo (2010) for Mathematics education to be relevant in the 21st century, it must offer
an integrated and comprehensive view of the world. Math should the viewed from many different
perspective to help pupils overcome the fear of what they may have perceived to be difficult. There are
illustrative examples in the Mathematical concept involved in dances, regional songs, stories, poetry
and indigenous games. Activities using movement and rhythm can make learning more fun. Engaging
the children in their mother tongue while studying Math creates spontaneity and reduces Math anxiety

According to new Scientist Article (2006), that the mother tongue may influence the the problem-
solving circuits in the brain develop, suggest the researchers. But the researcher adds the different
teaching methods across, or genes, may also have primed the brains off Chinese to solve equations
differently.

Espada (2012), Muke (2001),Niesche (2009) in their study discussed the positive effect of using mother
tongue in mathematics in mathematics classroom. However, serious recommendation and study
regarding the language of the minority ethnics residing in rural areas in many regions in Malaysia has
not been considered as a stepping stone of closing the gap between rural and urban pupils ; academic
performance. This study by the researcher attempted to highlight the potential of acquiring a better
academic performance in mathematics for pupils in rural Kapit by exposing them to a
of about the interview. The researcher became comfortable with each other and the researcher talked
about how long the Question and Answer will be. The researcher talked about the importance and
purpose of the interview . Followed by connected with his/her interest the interview proper started
when we asked him/her questions about the researcher. The interviewer ends the interview by asking
last question. After asking the last question the researcher had a brief recap. About all things that was
tackled. The last part of the interview was asking the respondent if he/she has any questions.

Data Analysis

The researcher conduct a survey to the ABM and STEM students of NCST- Senior High School. After
gathering all data from the interview, the researchers encode it for collating in a tabular presentation.
