The Self as a Sovereign State 1

Conclusion

The “self” is a loaded term with varying definitions that attempt to describe it in just one

or two aspects. Thus, viewing the “self” is a sovereign state that has some kind of a defined

territory, permanent population, effective government, and capacity to enter into relation with

other, is a broad and inclusive definition that seeks to describe the self in all aspect holistically.

And just like a sovereign state, each “self” is unique from one another, and that no two “self” is

similar because each embodies and uses the four features differently. The “self” may have

different defined territories, distinct biological makeups or personalities, different levels of

products (self-concepts), or it may interact uniquely with other “selves”.
