Academic Artifact
Future career interests (if known):
I would like to work with kids and although I'm not exactly sure maybe I’d like to be a
pediatrician.

Description of artifact/assignment:
In our AP Biology class we did a fetal pig dissection as one of our labs and we had to write a lab
report on it answering 83 questions on what we learned.

Why did you choose this as one of your artifacts/assignments?

I chose this as my artifact because it was very interesting to learn about and to see as well,
although it was kind of sad because we were opening up a fetal pig it was still an interesting
experience. I also got a very good grade on it, I got a 22/23 which is very good for a lab report
and I am very proud of it.

What academic skills did you use that are specific to this artifact/assignment?
Some academic skills I used that were specific to this artifact were research abilities because in
order to answer the questions we had to do a lot of research to find the correct answers and
written communication is another because we had to be able to clearly answer the questions
without making them too long or confusing.

What general academic skills did you use (skills that would be used in any academic class)?
Well it was a group assignment so we had to be able to communicate with each other and help
each other when cutting the fetal pig and all of its organs. We also had to do a lot of time
management because we had a certain amount of days to complete our fetal pig dissection and
still be able to label certain parts by looking at them and being able to recognize them.

Did you see growth in your targeted soft skills through the course of working on this
Artifact/Assignment? Explain.

Yes I did because a fetal pig dissection is definitely something that I had never done before last
year in biology I did a worm dissection but they were both very different. I also had learned all
this new material and I had to gather all that information in order to write a good lab report.

Provide an example of how these academic and/or soft skills are used in a career in which you
are interested.
These skills will help me because if I want to work with kids especially if I’d something like
become a pediatrician then I’m going to have to do a lot of critical thinking and self
management in order to stay focused and aware of everything. It's also something that requires a
lot of time and information and new material to learn
