The 1- MG storage steel tank in Recovery Hill, Christiansted
along with Richmond Pump Station are the primary delivery
Recovery Tank sources of water for Christiansted. The tank was built in 1968.
7 Rehabilitation and Wind Today, the tank has experienced surface pitting on the exterior $2,020,000.00
Girders and severe corrosion on the interior wall. This project involves
rehabilitating the tank and installing wind girders to stiffen and
strengthen the tank against natural disasters.
The 2-MG storage steel tank in Mon Bijou services the mid-north
Mon Bijou Tank Wind district of the distribution system. The tank was rehabilitated in
8 $1,500,000.00
Girders 2006. This project involves the installation of wind girders to
stiffen and strengthen the tank against natural disasters.
Adventure Chlorination This project entails the installation of a chlorine mixed oxidant
9 $520,000.00
Station generation system and a booster station to the Paradise and
Adventure Hill communities at the Adventure Pump Station.
This project involves installing cathodic protection on all steel

standards.
This is project calls for the installation of mixing systems for a
total of 9 tanks, (3) of which are located in St. Thomas, (1)
located in St. John, and (5) located in St, Croix. These mixing
systems will increase the life cycle of the water through
11 Tank Mixing System circulation, thus improving the quality of water. Our practice is to $1,800,000.00
fill the tanks to 100% capacity for each tank to maximize the
emergency storage capacity. The water in the tank is typically
stored for approximately 2-4 months, during which time the water
sits and become stagnant.

Water Distribution System Rehabilitation Projects to Meet
Standards
Leaking water main are frequent and costly after hurricanes and other disasters. Leaks occur as trees
and utility poles are uprooted or shift which causes water pipes to breaks. Water pipes are also affected
by soft earth and storm water erosion. The repair of leaking pipes slows the restoration of potable water
service to the community after a storm. The following tables are listings of water main rehabilitation
projects throughout both districts. Pipe rehabilitation will replace old cast iron and ductile iron pipes
with high pressure PVC pipe.
