1. PURPOSE
This specification describes how parts that are susceptible to corrosion must be packaged and handled to
ensure protection. It serves as a guideline for all suppliers involved in the manufacturing process of these
highly critical components.

2. SCOPE
It is valid for surfaces of the following components:
• Corrosive Metal Parts

3. INSTRUCTIONS

3.1 Identification on the drawing

Requirements for handling and packaging corrosive parts shall be noted on the drawing as follows:

1) PLACE PISTION INTO A SEALED, CLEAR PLASTIC BAG WITH A 50
GRAM DESICCANT BAG TO PREVENT RUSTING. EXPOSURE TO
ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS MUST BE MINIMIZED PRIOR TO
BAGGING.

3.2 Manufacturing

Upon completion of all manufacturing operations, parts must be cleaned such that they are free from dirt or
debris, as well as any remaining deposits from cutting fluids or other oils. Cleaning shall be performed
using denatured alcohol and a clean, lint-free cloth. Polishing compounds or other solvents are prohibited.
Part shall be dry prior to final packaging.

All areas of the part which exhibit any signs of oxidation shall be remedied by using scotch brite or other
equivalent, non-metallic media. Parts shall be subsequently cleaned per the above described manner.

3.3 Handling & Storage

Parts referenced in this specification must be adequately protected during the machining process, in
transit from the manufacturer to AREVA T&D as well as during periods of storage.

Parts made from metals that corrode under normal atmospheric conditions must be placed in a sealed
bag at least 3mil in thickness with the required amount of desiccant. Original desiccant humidity indicator
shall be placed inside of bag to reflect respective duration of environmental exposure, as well as
remaining integrity of moisture adsorbent. Required amount of desiccant will vary depending on part size
and volume of bag.

Therefore, this information will be specified on the respective drawing. After final cleaning, handling shall
be such that parts are not contaminated by body oils. These parts must then be individually protected in
such a manner as to keep the bags in tact (i.e.: wrapped in foam, corrugated cardboard, etc.) Bags shall
not be compromised such that part is exposed to atmospheric conditions.

3.4 Labeling
All TS-00016 parts must be labeled individually by the vendor.
Label format will be provided by Areva T&D. See Figure 5 for sample label format.

Do not at any time place the label directly on to the part surface. (See Figure 6) Allways place the label on
to the protective covers/packaging. (See Figure 7)

Note: Labels must be at least 4”X2” (100mm X 50mm) in size.

3.5 Inspection

To prevent compromising the sealed bag, incoming inspection will not perform routine inspection on this
product. As such, it must arrive with an inspection report and certificate of conformance to ensure
compliance with the drawing, (and applicable, referenced specification(s)).

3.6 Purchasing

During the procurement process, AREVA T&D purchasing agents shall supply the supplier with all
applicable technical specifications.
