Covid-19 Outbreak

Coronaviruses are a group of related viruses that cause diseases in mammals and
birds. In humans, coronaviruses cause respiratory tract infections that can be mild, such as
some cases of the common cold, and others that can be lethal, such as SARS, MERS, and
Covid-19. Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and
people. The example of coronaviruses are SARS-CoV (2003), HcoV-NL63 (2004), HKU1
(2005), MERS-CoV (2012), and SARS-CoV-2 (formerly known as 2019-nCoV) in 2019.

So now, what is Covid-19? Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is a respiratory

ilness, infectious disease that can be spread from person to person. It is a new strain that was
discovered in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans. The virus that causes
Covid-19 is a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) that was first identified during an
investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.

The virus that causes Covid-19 probably emerged from an animal source, but is now
spreading from person to person. The virus is thought to spread mainly between people who

are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet). The virus is also can be spread
through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It also
possible that a person can get Covid-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it
and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not to be the main
of the way virus spreads.

Those infected with the virus maybe asymptomatic, many develop flu-like symptoms,
so we may not know if we have symptoms of Covid-19, e.g. fever, cough, and shortness of
breath. Less commonly, upper respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, or sore
throat may be seen. Gastorintestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea are
seen in a minority of cases. In some, the disease may progress to pneumonia, multi-organ
failure, and death.

Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading, considering that this
disease is dangerous.
It is particularly important for people who :
1. Are 70 or over.
2. Have a long-term condition.
3. Are pregnant.
4. Have a weakened immune system.
What we must to do :
1. Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds.
2. Always wash your hands when you get home or into work.
3. Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not avalaible.
4. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough
or sneeze.
5. Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards.
6. Avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of coronavirus.
7. Only travel on public transport if you need to.
8. Work from home, if you can.
9. Avoid social activities, such as going to pubs, restaurants, theatres and cinemas.
10. Avoid events with large groups of people.
11. Use phone, online services, or apps to contact your GP surgery or other NHS services.
What we mustn’t to do :
1. Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.
2. Do not have visitors to your home, including friends and family.
