ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS


PART A (9 x 2 Marks = 18 Marks) BT CO MARKS
1. Compare Zener Breakdown and Avalanche breakdown. R C212.3 2
2. What is a clipper? State the condition needed for a clipper circuit, in order R C212.4 2
to get a flat output waveform at the clipping level.
3. Calculate the Γ (Ripple factor) value for a half-wave and full-wave rectifier. U C212.5 2

4. Define form factor, peak factor and PIV for a Half-wave rectifier. R C212.5 2
5. Give the applications of clamper circuit. R C212.4 2

6. Compare П-section CLC and RC filters. U C212.5 2

7. Calculate the value of inductance to use in the inductor filter connected to a AP C212.5 2
full wave rectifier operating at 60 Hz to provide d.c.output with 4% ripple
for a 100 Ω load.
8. Identify the clamper circuit and draw its output waveform. R C212.4 2

PART B (2 x 16 Marks = 32 Marks) BT CO MARKS
10. (i) With neat circuit diagram and waveforms, explain the operation of a U C212.5 10
full-wave rectifier with its parameters.
(ii) An a.c. supply of 230 V is applied to a half-wave rectifier circuit AP C212.5 6
through transformer of turns ratio 5:1. Assume the diode is an ideal
one. The load resistance is 300Ω, Find (a) d.c.voltage, r.m.s voltage
(b) PIV (c) power delivered to the load
11. (i) Explain the operation of the Capacitor filter, and derive the ripple U C212.5 8
factor when a full-wave rectified input is applied to it.
(ii) With neat waveforms and circuit diagram, draw and explain biased R C212.4 8
positive and negative clipper.
