Emotions at Work

1. Think about a time you experienced a strong emotion at school or work. Although we
might not talk about it much, we experience a variety of emotions at school or work, and
these experiences have clear impacts – on our decision making, our productivity, our view of
others, and our view of the work itself. These questions are concerned with your experience
of specific emotions at school or work, what caused the emotion, whether you expressed it,
and what happened afterwards.

Think about a time where you felt liking (accepting or trusting) for others in response to a
situation at school or work. Consider the situation that brought about this feeling, and how
you felt at the time. Specifically, think about:

What circumstances or events caused this feeling? What made you liking for others?
Who were the key players involved? What was your relationship with them?
Did you express your emotion? How was it expressed (or not expressed)? To whom?
What were the consequences of this situation? What happened as a result?

- How appropriate was your display of the emotion in question in that particular
environment?

- What would you do if you were in the same environment and felt a similar emotion?
