USB Driver Installation Process

1.

USB driver software setup requires the extraction of all the device drivers prior to connecting the Ultracorr
instrument to the PC via the Lemo to USB cable. This may be done by clicking on Install USB Drivers on
the Ultracorr Corrosion Monitoring System CD-ROM and choosing the appropriate driver to install. The
setup wizard will provide the option to save the file to the hard drive or run the application directly from the
CD-ROM. Click the “Save” button if saving to the PC is desired. When the “Save” button is clicked
Windows will prompt the user to select a location to save. Browse to the location to save the installer files
(choose the “Desktop” as a convenient location for the save) and click the “Save” button.

Click the “Run” button to begin the installation.

Click “Next” to proceed to the EULA. Read the End-User License Agreement, select the “I accept the
terms of the license agreement” and click “Next” to continue.
The utility will copy the driver files to a user specified directory or the default directory, “C:\SiLabs\MCU”,
shown below:

Click the “Next” button.


Click the “Install” button.

Select the “Launch the CP210x VCP Driver Installer” and click “Finish” when the installation is complete.
This will launch and install the necessary drivers.

Click the “Install” button to install the drivers. Proceed to next step when the installation is complete.

Ultracorr handheld instrument and Lemo to USB cable is required in order to complete the next section.

1. Power on the Ultracorr instrument.


2. Press Setup (F4) Æ Interface (F3) Æ USB (F2)
3. Connect the Ultracorr to the PC using the provided Lemo to USB cable.

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003 will automatically detect and install the necessary drivers. For
Windows XP and 2000 Professional, the following steps are needed. Windows will detect the new
hardware and the “Found New Hardware Wizard” will appear as shown below (screens and content may
be slightly different depending on the operating system, shown for Windows XP operating system):

Choose “No, not this time” to “Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?” and
click the “Next” button.

Choose “Install from a list of specific location (Advanced)” and click the “Next” button.
Make selections as shown above. Click “Include this location in the search:” and browse to:
C:\SiLabs\MCU\CP210x\Windows_2K_XP_S2K3_Vista for Windows XP and Windows 2000 as shown
below:

Click “Next” followed by “Finish” to complete the installation of the USB drivers.

Ensure proper installation by navigating to the Device Manager.

Click on the “Device Manager” and expand the Ports (COM & LPT) to view the USB controller just
added. See the highlighted selection below. The COM number is the port number used by the Corrdata
Plus Corrosion Monitoring Software.

Once the installation is finished, if the device manager shows the CP210x USB to UART Bridge
Controller, then the installation is successful and the Ultracorr is ready for use with the Corrdata Plus
Corrosion Monitoring Software.
